Thanks for the moral support guys.

For the record, I visited the man once because he wanted to rent out his house. That fell through and that was the last I heard/saw of him.

Besides the insults, all that was missing was a detailed map of Vale do Milho (since you already named the house!!!) to show people "beware when walking here or maybe, throw poisoned meat over this fence..."

I fail to see the point of the previous topic as this dog is behind a fence 24/7 and on this one occasion raced out an opportuenly open gate to chase a small dog - not a person or a child - another dog.

I know enough people who have fear of animals and the only good a post like that would do is give these people the impression that Carvoeiro has free-ranging vicious animals, which just isnt the case.

Debate about animal laws and the way animals are treated in portugal or whatever else all you like - refrain from unfounded accusations and insults and the topics will remain open.

Dear Carvoeiro forum people. I would just like to put the record straight about the above incident.

I was a bit rumbustious with that young pup and I did get a bit out of hand. I am sorry for frightening anyone - it wasn't my intention. I just shot out of the gate and before I knew it the puppy was launched into a bush! I thought it was flying - it alarmed me and I barked and growled.

As you can see, I am really a nice doggie, in fact I'm not even an alsatian; I'm a dalmation - you saw me in my work clothes!

Next time you're passing just put your hand through the gate and give me a pat on the head!

Alsation= Dalmation in working clothes!...hilarious

But ..just in case of unexpected attack...and little dogs can be as vicious can't they...maybe more so
I.E. Jack Russels..or ankle- biters as my son calls them...
whats the best form of defense?

G - but it could have been - isn't it best to be safe than sorry. Surely awareness and being careful is better than an accident.

Good stuff there Mr Crane, as long as the dog hasn't bitten off more than it can chew.

Good! because not only am I fretting about the distant dangers of forest fires, I'm getting hysterical about rabid dogs that roam free and shred flesh all day!!!!

I assume this subject was locked because of the personally offensive remarks made and I for one am grateful that this was stopped. Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion - but why do some people have to throw insults in when voicing theirs ? - this just detracts from what would otherwise have been a reasonable exchange of views - or is that just too boring ??

Am I alone in being somewhat bemused by the concept of a "locked" topic ?

Everyone can still read the entirety, and it only takes a simple post to start it all up again under a similar name.

I support the idea of moderators, who have the unenviable job of ensuring that seriously distasteful stuff is kept out of the forum, but when exercising that power, let it be done as a positive move by deleting inappropriate texts (and being transparent that something has been deleted), not by fuelling the fire as seems to have happened here.

Sorry to have gone off topic.

I'm a dog lover.

I have a villa very near to where this dog is kept, it barks constantly and can be heard snarling at anyone passing by. The only way you can complain is by getting passed the dog!!

There are so many break ins nowdays.....but now we have a big dog we feel much safer. It is true that when somebody walks past the house our dog will bark for maybe 30 seconds and then retreats back to lay down....That what dogs do you know...and is one of the main reasons to have a dog.....
But I have a couple of Portuguese neighbours...and I dont know why but they chain them up on short chains all day...and they bark and bark all day long..I'm at my whits end...so I'm on both sides....I beleive have a dog by all means and it will bark doing its job..but train it and treat it as a dog should be treated..and it will serve you well........

Where I come from, just about everyone has a dog…. and you can walk down the road passing houses on both sides, and not a single dog will bark. Approach someone’s front gate or door and it sets their dog off!!!!
How do you explain that??

Maybe they dont wear funny hats and Jog in their lilly white skin....as most of this (UK) lot do in the Algarve....(The people not the dogs ! )
