What about Happys i dont know if it is open then, but Libbard will decorate the table with balloons, present the cake and make you feel very welcome. Although it is small, seeing it is Feb i dont suppose there will be that many people around anyway. You wont feel rushed to leave after your meal and it is just up the road from your hotel and close to bars if you want to carry on the celebrations into the night :)
Please let us know what you decide and how it turns out as im going in August and will celebrating my 40th while im there so you might be able to point me in the right direction of where to go.

It's close to Sesmarias so about 10 minutes drive from Carvoeiro.

Very nice, a bit nouvelle cuisine, expensive - and they don't take credit cards.

thanks for all the replies, I will let you know what we end up doing.

Rgds Jason.

P.S. Re Happy's we have found that place a bit of a joke. Have tried to get in there several times (becuase everyone raves about it) but he just seems to have same old answer even without checking the bookings 'Sorry fully booked' even for a night or two in advance. On our last visit it just got beyond a joke and we thought perhaps it was a 'strickly no Brits place!!' We have given up now....

You have just been unlucky with Happy's - I can assure you Libbe does not discriminate. I always eat there on my First and last evenings in CVO and on the last night (when we are joined by some of the locals) it can be up to 15 of us, (think 18 is the record). However, my point being that we always book at least 3 weeks in advance.

PS
As far as Libbe saying he is fully booked without checking the book, I think in a place that small he would know if he was fully booked or not.

Hope your ''Birthday do'' goes well wherever you decide.

Roma you can't stagger home from!
You are all missing the best , the first and the oldest restaurant in carvoeiro - O' Patio down at the beach. Lovely large fire place with logs burning. Dark oak wooden beams. Great ambience and lovely people running it. Go no further.

If you like being served by an extremely rude head waiter then do go to julios. Pretty atmosphereless at this time of year I would have thought.

O'Rafoil was a good venue for a 40th birthday we attended - lovely setting and they looked after us well. Its the last restaurant on the right on the 'out' road.

 Ellie I so agree, this has to be one of the most expensive restaurants in cvo. and the food is no different than that you can buy in most of the others up 'the hill'
