Graham, the can trick to which you refer, was often done sitting in a circle with a few stoned mates and more usually known as the "beer hunter".
Then in the early 70s there were the early alcopops. Vodka and lime, Vodka and orange (both with sickly neat cordial to hide the taste of vodka!)
Now what would have happened if you could have got vinho verde as a yoof. Not to difficult to put away thre or four bottles each on a Sunday afternoon.

I remember clubbing together with a few mates (a few pence each!) and taking those large tins of Watneys Party Seven to do's. Oh the joys of Watneys.
Now, on the subject of beer does anyone know anywhere in CVO that sells the dark Sagres beer (Preta? sp) on draught? Sullys had it years ago but I don't think they've done it for a while.

Remember Dark Rum & blackcurrant? Mate of mine got completely rat a***d on it about 30 years ago and someone had the bright idea to take him for a spin around town with the windows open to sober him up. After a few minutes he had an acute attack of projectile vomitting which due to the slipstream splattered along the whole length of his lime green Hillman Husky. The driver looked at the mess & due to the colour of the vomit thought that my mate was suffering from internal bleeding & rushed him to A & E where he had his stomach pumped! They kept him in overnight - don't think he's touched rum & black since, nor have I as I had to clean up the mess which had dried rock hard - no pressure washers in those days.
Oh happy days!!!

SAGRES PRETA
For the dark draught beer try Anteak Bar, Rua Do Barranco [The out road]
I enjoyed several there in March
