I'm coming for a long weekend and going to Maximes tonight.

Saying that, it is a lovely time to visit the area, its quiet and peaceful and there are still lots of things to do. Walks, nice restaurants still open, and time to get to know people again. (and have the beach to yourself)

Silly response considering how lucky the area appears to have been as far as injury to locals and visitors is concerned

The last one I can remember in this area was about 10 years ago, but nothing like the one yesterday, all it did was bend tv aerials, and make a bit of a mess, with signs and the odd tree branch.

Actually it was 24th October last year when a tornado hit Faro Airport. The control tower was badly damaged & 5 people were injured. What short memories you have.

I do not have a short memory I was talking about in the Lagoa area.

I was at the airport last year when the " mini " tornado struck and hopefully as with yesterdays fortunately withonly a few injuries.
Severe weather events happen, I have friends who lost almost everything because of hurricane Katriona and and face evacuation every couple of years but stayed and rebuilt a thriving business,
In the UK only this month another friend was marooned at home because of floods in somerset for the third time.
We have no control over such happenings we just have to accept that one day , something , might happen and get on with life.

We got to the aiprort about 5.40 this morning after one of the scariest drives I have had in years.
We found a scene of confusions and chaos as the roof had collapsed about 10 mins before, the fire and ambulances had not yet arrived.
Most of the temporary fences and signs had blown down and sheets of metal were flying about.

My "silly response" about the possibility of experiencing a tornado in November was only slightly tongue in cheek, as you know through your experience................... it happens!

The airport was operating by 11.am, I know because my wife flew back to Bristol on Ryan air and back again 2 days later.
We all know about the disruption that affected passengers arriving and departing for some time ( but not flights ).
What it demonstrated was that in their own way the Portuguese can recover quickly from these events .

This has wondered off the initial theme posted by Tricky....just to add that we have had a great month here ( November plus 3 days in October) with the weather generally pretty good , viz:
Good......45%....warm enough to have breakfast/lunch outside, mainly shirt sleeve temps about the 18/20 mark , mainly azure skies: would pass for a good summer's day in UK!
Ok.........38%...generally cloudy, no rain, cooler at about 15/16 : probably need a light sweater, eat outdoors if sheltered.....bit like this summer in UK!
Poor.......17%...rain or tornado , a day for the shopping malls or catching up with a good book , possibly with a log fire

We have enjoyed meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones, walking either with the CVO Ramblers, Algarve Wednesday Walkers or the Algarve Hash House Harriers.....as well as on our own.....social events have included a Murder/Mystery dinner party (APAA), a dinner/quiz ( St Patrick's Society) and a musical evening at the lovely Logoa Auditorium ( Linda Scanlon).
The restaurants that we frequented were all busy, from Chrissy's and Brasserie Rosal to the excellent value at Escondidinho's and Palmeira : shame A Paleta was closed.

All in all, an excellent time to visit the Algarve!
