Portimao retail park destroyed by fire
Re: Portimao retail park destroyed by fire
Drove past it today and can confirm that the petrol garage seems unaffected although, understandably, it wasn't open. The long building which housed the shops is still standing but black. One strange thing is that the sign for Aki over its door appears not to have burnt as it is still there
The whole place looks a very sad sight

I saw a photo and the Decathlon sign looks virtually untouched as well. As you say, it's very sad.

There are 3 pages of photos here:

Although some of the facade & signage is just about still standing there is nothing left behind it. I can't recall seeing many more devastating fires.
I hope the insurance cover was such that a quick knock down and rebuild can go ahead.

Re: Portimao retail park destroyed by fire
Did any of the stores have sprinklers installed? It's a huge area and it seemed to have spread very quickly. Surely the initial fire was an isolated one? I.e. it started in one store and it must have triggered an alarm of some sort. It is suspicious how it spread so rapidly and so far.

Some good news.
According to a report in Tomorrow Carvoeiro, some of the stores are relocating their staff to their other outlets in the area.

Where's the nearest AKI? See if I can get my radiator replaced.

AKI is part of Leroy Merlin.laserblazer wrote:Where's the nearest AKI? See if I can get my radiator replaced.

Interesting! We have (had) a radiator in AKI for warranty repair. I wonder if Leroy Merlin will honour it? I did wonder when I first heard of the fire but it seems it started in DeBorla.Farol wrote:AKI is part of Leroy Merlin.laserblazer wrote:Where's the nearest AKI? Mmmm, a faulty electric radiator eh? I'd keep very quiet about that if I was you.
