I am wondering if people are choosing to go elsewhere? I've only ever been to Carvoeiro, so hard for me to compare.
I was near Murcia in Spain last month, and I'd say prices for drinks/snacks etc. were pretty reasonable, possibly cheaper than in Carvoeiro last year.
Not to worry, come June 10th, I'll be putting my money into and supporting the local Carvoeiro businesses. Along with cheering on the England football team - (for what good that will do!).
Alvor is notably less expensive.

Have those who comment about the levels of activity, costs etc realised that there is a global recession compared to the boom times of 5 years ago.
Just think yourselves fortunate that you can still afford a holiday compared to the millions across europe without jobs who would give their eye teeth to swap places with you.
Stop complaining and spend your money in as many locally .owned places as you can

People are merely making observations!
Would you be so defensive if these remarks were made about the UK ? No you would be wallowing in it.

Well I could only count 3 people on the webcam overlooking the square :!: I just wonder if they will get the Spanish tourists this year because they certainly filled the beach up in the high season over the last couple of years .. Anyway I will be on the beach Saturday morning showing off my lily white legs :D :D

Strangely enough (or not knowing you lot) we had the same discussion last year at this time:

If you're going to CVO in the next few months, just cheer up and be happy! If you are not going, then the low numbers are all your fault and you have caused the downfall of our beloved Carvoeiro - so hang your heads in shame and send donations to Happy Dude, C/O Hampshirerich, CVO Forum! - any donation will do as long as it involves £20 notes

Far from it, I live in a UK holiday town where almost weekly a shop or local business closes down where in some streets 1 in 3 shops are closed ,where visitors when they come bring their own food and drink ( buying in bulk from the local tesco etc )with them and spend their time in the budget and charity shops when it rains because they cannot afford to go to the usual holday attractions.
I do not want to see that happen to Carvoeiro.

Bruce and others , you do not realise how fortunate you are.

I am not lucky EMM I have worked hard all my life and so has my husband.
Thank God the visitors to your town don't buy their goods from Iceland, I guess Tesco is more acceptable.

I am sure they would if Iceland sold cheap booze and was within walking distance of the beach.
But to be serious we should not take for granted the advantages we have.

jaimiely, believe it not at one time the local charity shops got together and printed a leaflet showing locations etc as we had/have more of this type of shop than many towns of the same size.

thats the issue of low/no rents and rates charity shops proliferate whilst others move out.....we have seen a definitive shift in CVO with many people eating/drinking at home its the balance of do this or dont take a holiday, the counter balance is lower costs and get more people in ...have you seen Dolce Vita in Praia da Rocha? they have a winning formula with their pricing
