EMM
Your becoming bipolar
Last week you were talking about the pound reaching 1.40 to the Euro and now its going to be worth diddly . Next you will be saying GB will be PM for another 5 years you have to admit though he is stomping all over those light weight girlies (Tories). Well I might as well stay out here for a wee while longer. As I have said a few times on this forum the recession/depression has not even started yet but come this time next year
GB and his cronies have spent vast amounts of money and I mean vast cushioning Joe public from the downturn problem is it has now run out so the pain is about to begin. It will stagger even the most staunch Labour voter there will be riots in the streets. Strikes are beginning to rear up even now but trust me this is just the prelude. We are probably the first older generation to let down our youngsters who can no longer afford to house themselves, have very little in job prospects and as to a pension well. Its quite frankly a fucking disgrace

No I did not say the £ would reach E1.40 I reported what an arcticle in the Sunday Times said.
It is also many of the polls and pundits who believe that labour will retain a majority at the next election .
Only the Tories can prevent this by getting there own act together. We now have the Tory Kat Deeley ( Mrs C ) to add to the Ant and Dec ( Cameron and Osborne ) Show.
I agree that even if we have seen the worst of the recsession we are far from out of it and it will be at least the second half of 2011 before real growth is seen..
As for industrial unrest and violence in the streets ,those days are over, apathy rules in the UK of the 21st century.
But the eurocrats and a most of those in the public sector will still be OK

Hamish McRae, respected economic journo in The Independent wrote in Friday's edition this:
"For what it is worth, though, there are two reasons to suspect that the Tories will get a majority, albeit a small one.
One is the calculation done by Simon Ward, economist at Henderson, relating the Government's position in the polls vis-à-vis the principal opposition party, with changes in various economic numbers, including the retail price index, house prices, unemployment, and so on. His model predicted that the Tory lead would narrow to 2 per cent as more favourable data came through, but that it will widen to around 11 per cent by early May. It is only an economic model, and it does assume that people vote with their purses and wallets, but it has been pretty accurate in the past.
The other is what has been happening to spread betting. The best way of seeing where the serious money is going on the election is not so much the bookies' odds but the spread on the number of seats that each party is expected to win. The Tories are quoted on 331-336 seats, Labour on 232-237 seats and the Lib Dems on 55-58. These results would mean a narrow majority for the Tories."
Brown may have missed his chance.......again......should've called an election a couple of weeks ago for end of March. Economic data will get worse and despite concerns over a number of issues (health, social, immigration and others) people normally vote with their 'money' in general elections in the UK.

Re: Pound lower than the euro
Hamish Mcrae along with David Smith and many other so called expert economists have been consistently wrong for about the last 3 - 4 years so maybe its time to ignore them....
I do agree though with the bookies they have a lot more savvy.
The amount of money being sucked out of the economy is staggering. GB and his erstwhile friend AD may have created about 500 billion to try and win the next election but its small fry to what is really happening. EMM thinks this will all be over by 2011/12 dream on thats when it will start. The best one can hope for is a gradual decline like the last 5 years for instance where in real terms most peoples standard of living has dropped but most have not realised this they have resorted to their credit cards. As for riots in the street the British people are by nature an easy going bunch but once riled they can really kick off and its about time they did. Labour announced this week they would not raise taxes if re elected

Re: Pound lower than the euro
well we really are a happy bunch - if that P**** cameron and his idiots would stop talking the £ down - so they can say they are needed to save us all, we would be in a far better state than all this doom and gloom - thats not what the FTSE saying is it? - another record week - how does that go with the pound going down the drain!!
Re: Pound lower than the euro
Blaming the Tories for talking down the pound is a load of crap. With all the lies that GB has told before why on earth do people still believe anything that he says? The Tories are keeping too quiet but hopefully they will come out fighting as the election nears. The pounds weakness is purely based on the enormous deficit and fantasy growth figures that GB is predicting plus the markets fear of GB possibly being involved in future decision making because of a hung parliament.
GB has been proved to be inept at running our economy and as disingenuous in all matters - his demise is the only chance of the pound strengthening. Face the facts and stop believing the bullshit propoganda.

I take it Cereza your not voting Labour
The BOE once again today has talked the pound down they do it with regular monotony. I have a feeling that MK does not have a lot of time for GB

Re: Pound lower than the euro
Watching Vince Cable on i player yesterday, I see he has a similar outlook on the tories talking the £ down!
If only he was a bit younger - he would make an excellent PM or Chancellor

Re: Pound lower than the euro
All goes back to the UK Banking system/ govt selling off all our gold assets, if that was still in place we would have a much better standing and of course if we did not spend the rest on stupid war games in places we should keep our sticky beaks out off.

Also what's his age got to do with it?
Re: Pound lower than the euro
They are at it again , as the £ struggles to stay above E1.15 one of the so called financial experts in the sunday times expects the £ to rise by 19% against the Euro ( E1.35. )
As it has only gained 2.4% this year I am not sure I would want to bet on this excellent news for us Brits as it may be.

Re: Pound lower than the euro
In 2008 we experienced the worst financial collapse since the 30s because some smart alec bankers lent a huge amount of money to those who had little chance of repaying the debt. They called it sub-prime mortgages.
In 2010 we are now hearing the the super bank (IMF) are planning to lend money to Greece and Portugal.
Does this look like a repeat performance ?

Re: Pound lower than the euro
Yes e-Richard. In 2007/08 we had huge personal debt and now we have huge sovereign debt.
The banks will get hit again but who will bail them out this time?
Will Germany and France bail out the PIGIS ? Thats the big question - personally I doubt it very much
