Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
Ditzy - apart from the bus station in Lagoa (which I assume has one or two bus-stops) - I don't know what a Portuguese bus-stop looks like.
That would be acceptable if we had just arrived - we have been in Carvoeiro since 1987 and I can't honestly remember seeing one. We are in town next week - so I will go out of my way to find one.

There is at least one bus stop on the lagoa road down hill from Monte Santo and we regularly see buses driving along this road.
Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
While we were there In August we Used the Bus to Portimao (We stayed at Monte Dourado) Used Bus Stop On Out Road just past Pottery Market & Buses were quite regular
Cost 8 euros for 4 Of Us (2 Adults & 2 Kids) One way
Got Taxi back & this Cost 12 euros & was 20 minutes quicker !!!!!!!

At present we live in Vale do Milho and all we see there is the train - during the season.
We are planning on moving to the 'other' side later this year so might just see a bus or two and even a bus-stop

Yes - we are crossing the 'big-divide' - in June - subject to lawyers getting themselves organised - therein lies the 'rub'

Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
I can understand that but driving in Portugal is fairly stress free and it offers so much more.shanagarry wrote:There are many people who come here on holiday and do not want the 'pressure' of driving in a strange place and on the other side of the road. That's before taking Portuguese driving etiquette and 'capability' into account

Hi Laserblazer - the statistics have a ring of truth to them - Portugal has the 5th worst accident and road mortality rate in the WORLD and that takes in all those places you can't even pronounce let alone find them on a map. I got the infor from The Economist - so it must be right
People coming on holiday read that and believe they will be entering 'Bombay Rush-Hour Demolition Derby' and decide to use public transport. The reality could not be further removed from that image. Compared to the South-East (where we live) The Algarve is a delight to drive in - as, incidentally is the rest of Portugal. However, those who peddle statistics and sensationalism have created a scare culture that 'works' and stops people making the most of that beautiful country.
I know many people who would not contemplate driving in Portugal - it's a pity some of them don't contemplate doing the same back here

Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
After 6 years of driving in Portugal ( 15-18 weeks year ) i can count on 3 fingers the number of close shaves we have had and 2 of those were " hire cars /UK reg motor caravans on the wrong side of the road ".
Yes it did take a little while to get used to LHD but I feel a lot happier there than i did on the M5 up to B,ham and back this morning.

A Big ThankYou to all your replies.
It would appear that our villa is opposite the Villa Nova Restaurant so I reckon a 15 minute walk to Carvoeiro won't do us any harm at all. Mind you I might say different after an uphill journey home. Anyway this is our first trip to Carvoeiro and really looking forward to it. We did not intend hiring a car as we just want to relax and chill out - do enough driving here at home. Having teenagers with us, I know they will want to get some "retail therapy" in, so one trip to the shopping centre outside Guia should sort them out. I do find it strange that there is only one minibus in town, surely there is a demand for them especially in Summer. Anyway I'm sure we will manage and will keep an eye out for the buses.

Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
Ive used the bus between Carvoeiro and Lagoa several times ( I don't drive when Im on hols there)...I believe you can now buy a season ticket, which works out much cheaper.
Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
Thanks for the info Ellie. From where can we buy this bus ticket and where in Caroveiro do you get the bus to Lagoa.

I sometimes get the bus as you go up the hill past the taxi rank....or I walk along the 'out' road as you go out of Carvoeiro on edge of town,
You can buy season tickets at the bus depot in Lagoa.
Have a nice time
Re: Public Transport in Carvoeiro
Thank you Ellie,
Do you know if I can get a bus from Lagoa directly to the Algarve Shopping Centre at Guia?
