I was assuming you had a hire car in my advice.

It might be worth looking at hiring a car for the whole period and be independent ( and because you will need one to get anywhere from your accommodation) wherein the price may well be little more than hiring a day here and there + taxis. Driving here is no problem and the signposting in recent times has improved immensely.

We always hire through Algarve driver who you will find on this site, good quality cars and a lot cheaper than anyone else that I have had quotes from.

I have just read all these entries wondering when the reference to a farmhouse in CVO was going to crop up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Yes you could say we are pretty regular.
The first 2 yrs twice ayr and then up to 3 times. Now we go for longer periods and try for 4/5 times ayear. We have been going for the past 16yrs so Ithing we count as regulars.
All I can say is relax enjoy and don't fall into the trap I did, as being the only one who drives, as Hub maintains he can't (won't ) drive over there.

As a family we visit Vale D’el Rei several times a week for tai chi and salsa classes plus whist and bridge sessions. As Roy says it is an upmarket resort and I know from experience that the manager works hard to set a high standard.

As a non drinker I am not familiar with all the bar prices but I have to agree that the quoted beer prices are high. My usual order is a large glass of wine and a coca cola which cost €3 and €2 respectively – which while higher than the local bars are not bad prices for a good quality hotel.

I am aware that the hotel was short staffed on Saturday and this together with a number of external visitors in addition to a full complement of guests probably accounted for the slow service.

The hotel is in a pleasant quiet setting but it is a bit off the beaten track for the high life of Carvoeiro. There are, however, shuttle buses to the village and to the beach.

I agree that a hire car would be useful for a few days to get out and about and to explore the many small Portuguese restaurants in the area.

You have made me think about transport to CVO. I had had a look on the Vale D'el Rei website and it refers only to free transport to the beaches. I shall be at the hotel tomorrow evening to play whist and I will check whether transport goes to Carvoeiro and let you know.

The hotel notice board shows a shuttle bus into Carvoeiro with 3 trips a day. From the hotel at 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00 with returns to the hotel from CVO at 14.00, 16.00 and 18.00.
