The Jailhouse is one of the big attractions to Cvo, won't be the same without Bobby, a very hard act for anyone to follow, will be sadly missed by us all :(

Jailhouse

Post by Gazza »

It could be with us for a while yet as bars and restaurants, and in particular those with a specific attraction or unique feature that is hard to replicate when the current owners departs, can take years to sell. As some of you have quite rightly stated, a large part of the Jailhouse's value is Dave's personality and his music, and for me it is hard to see how someone will make a go of it given its location and past associations with Dave and visiting musicians such as John Clare.

I sincerely hope for Dave and Karen’s sake it does sell at a decent price, but I for one will sorely miss the place.

I have an Apartment very close to the Jailhouse, and have been in several times, I agree that whilst it is popular with regular visitors, new people who visit tend to stay in the centre, it is also not everybodys taste. (Michael Crane did a few funny reports on his Christmas/New Year page)
Think it would be very hard to make a big sucess, just because of the position.

The other thing is about the outside area, it did at one time have tables outside and from what I heard they were told not use, plus the area that was used for pool had to be tented of, so agree with Wolfie, that outside area cannot be used...Was told that by a Man who lives few doors away

Me and some friends went to Jailhouse's last July (2006) and June 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed it, great music, great atmosphere, great drinks, what more could you ask for?! :D

We used to go there most nights, the only gripe I have is that if you go there regularly, you get a bit sick of the stale jokes!!!

have nothing against the Jailhouse - I have been in there many times myself and it can be a good night although it is a bit repetitive .Good luck to him -but returning to the original thread is this a good bar to buy ? Because it is off the strip ie the square and restaurant hill it is never going to be a big draw purely as a bar .There are really only a few bars in Carvoeiro that are dead certs to buy - Roundup has to be number one by a long way

Back from 3 Weeks and people from Jailhouse stood on the corner giving leaflets out trying to get people in so really do not think the best bar to buy, Roundup is back on the market, now that is full all the time.

The JAILHOUSE

Post by Rooster »

I've just come back from two weeks playing guitar with Bobby Stardust in the Jailhouse. I can tell you all that unfortunately we are not getting any younger and performing for three hours solid every night throughout the season can be tiring. I can certainly understand this as after the first week my back went after being on stage with him and the following week I had to sit on a stool while playing! However he still loves doing it and it is with some regret that he has put the bar up for sale. The other reason is of course Dave and Karen also have their apartment business so it is a matter of finding the time to do both successfully.

It is certainly possible that the bar will still be on the market for some years so I would not write it off just yet and, yes, it would not be the same without Bobby Stardust at the helm.

Obviously if he no longer performs then he may have to drop his stage persona and adopt a new one - looking at his waistline I would suggest 'Bobby Bifana' - any more suggestions?
