Motorhome camping in/near Carvoeiro

Hi. I and my family hope to spend a week in the general area of Carvoeiro this July. We're travelling from Irealnd in our motorhome and intend to meet up with extended family who are staying at Rocha Brava villas. Can anyone suggest the nearest and best campsites to the area. I'd be much obliged.

If you want something different for a couple of days, there's a good little site off the Monchique road. If you going towards Monchique it's on the right near the zoo. It's run by a French guy. The views are fantastic and it's great for walking.

Peter, Thanks for that. I'd seen details of the Ferragudo site previously. Is that site close - maybe within cycling distance - of Rocha Brava complex? Thinking of just arriving there without a firm booking of a site - are there many camping sites in the area that may not be advertised widely? Thanks again

Yes it's probably 40k or so. I mentioned it as another site to try that is a little different.

One of the two sites in Armacao de Pera would certainly be closer, with a pleasant bike ride on the back road, through Porches & Benagil to Rocha Brava. A few hills but nice views.

Can't comment on the camp sites though - I think there is one near the Pera beach and one on the road from Alcantarilla.

My brother-in-law looked at the ADP site and wasn't impressed. Mayoman, is your username a clue to your location?

I wondered because a friend of mine is President of the Irish Motorcaravanning Club.

I noticed vans parked up in a field behind the cafe at Nossa Senhora da Rocha. I'm not sure if it is an official site or just fly camping.

We've never joined any caravanning club so far and tend to do our own thing. We have done our share of 'fly' or 'wild' camping here in Ireland and Europe, but don't generally plan for more than a single night in such places - security being an issue if leaving the vehicle and the kids also need on-site facilities. I'm a little more optimisitic as I get a better sense of the area and other towns.
