Car Hire

Post by fmm »

Feeling a bit grumpy - I always use Sixt car hire - they have my details on their computer, can pick up and return vehicles easily to their compound - good vehicles - low mileage etc. Anyway - got a quote for august (16 days) and they quoted £332 for a basic air con vehicle and £264 for a basic non air con vehicle. Last year the aircon vehicle was approx £15 per day, this year £20 per day (for a longer hire period!)

I am really a bit miffed about this and have emailed them with some price comparisons. I still would rather use them and don't mind paying a small premium, but the Opodo prices are £189 no air con and £219 with air con. A massive difference of £113 for air con and £75 no air con. I just can't see how they can justify this!

I got a quote from Algarve Driver and that was about mid price between the two.

I have used Holiday Autos in the past in another country and they were OK - anyone got any views on this?

Try www.economycarhire.com full insurance and excess cover included. I have used them 3 times in the last year and gone for the cheaper quote without aircon, everytime the car has had aircon so i presume all the cars do. They are very good and I haven't had a problem. Don't come looking for me if the car doesn't have aircon though.

I use Travel rent.

Find them helpful, reliable and cheap.

In Feb I booked a Peugeot 206 est. I was given a new 307 est .

Seems to happen regularly.

Easy people to deal with in terms of collection and delivery and a discount for cash.

Visit 6 or 7 times a year and always use Economy Car Hire. Only change on the current visit is a change from TravelRent to Drive 4 Fun, since they are new and offering excellent deals. No problems so far, and the car is only 3 months old and spotless.

All the companies economycarhire use are at the airport to the right of the customs exit or to the left the cars are in car park 4 after doing the paperwork a short trolley trip from the terminal. used travel rent via ECH last week, faultless.

Do Economy car Hire operate from the airport car park or do you have to travel by mini bus to their depot like Budget,Avis etc?

Airport Car Park if you use Travel Rent so no transfer, pretty sure the rest of ECH do as well on their site but worth checking. It's P4 at the airport which is reserved for the hire companies. Give them a call. There are no excesses to pay either ie the expensive CDW charges. Hopefully you won't right it off but if you did then nothing to pay. There is a visa slip to sign though if you bring the petrol back at less than it started. This is returned like other companies

We also always use Economycarhire/Travel rent. Prices are hard to beat and no insurance excess! Only once had a problem when our hire car broke down, Travelrent delivered another one at 7am the next morning so I could pick my sister up from the airport. Excellent service.

Thanks for all the info - have contacted Travel Rent and will wait to see what they come back with. Sixt have not yet responded to my query about their pricing.
