Living in Carvoeiro? Is it a good place to raise a family?

Thank you for all your replies, very interesting comments. It sound to me like Carvoeiro is a great place to raise a family and enjoy life in a friendly place.

I don't want to knock the UK because it does have it's good points and I don't know if it is just me or the places we have lived, but I find people keep themselves very much to themselves these days. We live in a nice area and are happy, outgoing, friendly people and will make time for anyone, but we have lived here in West Sussex for 6 years and hardly know our neighbours.

It wasn't like this 15 years ago, people have changed or maybe society has changed, whatever it is, it is just not friendly anymore, people don't seem to have the time of day for anyone....

Sorry, but I do feel better for that.

We are thinking about renting a villa for a few months before we buy, does anyone know the costs involved in renting? and the availability?

We currently run a successful online mail order business and are considering operating it from Carvoeiro - Is the Internet availability pretty much the same as here in the UK? What kind of International Postal service is available to ship back to the UK?

Hi Paul,
We moved here 18 months ago. We have 3 children at The International School. They have settled in very well and are enjoying life to the full.
The two youngest were no problem, soon made friends and never looked back. The eldest (then 11) was disgruntled for the first school term, but now does not even want to go back to the UK for a visit!!
I would say that the kids adapted much quicker to their new life than we did!

Hi Paul,
We lived in Surrey and on the boarder with Rusper. My husband's cousin was the West Sussex County Cllr for Horsham,
he assisting/advising me with various different community projects that I set up or helped to set up throughout Sussex.
So I have always one way or another had various connections with the area. Bill(my husband's cousin) use to live in Henfield.
In so far as Sussex, I also through family have connections with Brighton, Lewes and other areas.

We have lived in the Algarve for nearly 6yrs now.
Not really any regrets but like anywhere you live there is always the good and the bad things. I think that most that know the
ropes here in the Algarve, would tell you that the climate is one of the best in the world, that it is most certainly much more laid
back here in the Algarve, less crime and cheaper in most things, so in these respects a more healther way of living than say the UK.
My only concern and I know others on this forum who live or have lived in the Algarve or other areas of Portugal will tell you that
anyone thinking about moving out here, lock,stock and barrel, must really, do their homework first and at the end of the day finances
will always unfortunately, be the deciding factor.
My last comments would be, over the last 2 days..the real summer looks as though it's well and truely on it's way...so here we are in
March, wearing shorts, t.shirts & flip flops...lunch times sitting round our pool, munching sandwiches or something similiar with nice cool
drinks....I ask you what should anyone on this earth want more....except of course most will agree your health. The Algarve is a very
beautiful place, that is if you think things out carefully before you make the move to live here. The other thing that I would also say,
is that it is important to try and seek out and surround yourself with good people who can advise of the pitfalls and this is why forums
such as this one are worth their weight in gold. I sincerely hope, that my above scribble goes a little way to answering your questions.
