Yes, I suppose that is how I feel. I love history and ancient buildings and decorations and going to stately homes and castles but I wouldn't want to live in them. I like no fuss and simple...maybe because I am simple.

tbbr wrote:Many say that the new Marina in Albufeira is an eyesore, I think that it is just different.

However the Riverside complex and restaurant on the hill in Ferrugada is something else, it must have been designed by a disciple of Gaudi " on speed ".
Its almost so bad that that is deserves to become a listed building.

Any other Nominations ??
When I visited the new marina I thought I was in "LEGO LAND"

yes guys...
some building that you have mentioned are bad, but Bruxy i wouldnt like tham to get their hands on the buildings in Silves, the run downness of some of the buildings is what gives the place its true character, i have seen it too many times in my travels, the heritage of some countries is being ruined by over bold and ambitious ideas of some of the young arch.

I had restoration in mind Luke, as they do in the UK with listed buildings. Certainly nothing drastic. Silves is shabby in places and needs a bit of brightening up IMHO. I certainly don't want it to look like the picture above.

no.
but i remember going to the U.S and Long Island and those places, which mad me think of the stupid thing the UK gov does with our heritage, we only have our castles now, i think that there was a lot more before.
i like Portugal for its rustic and unspoilt places, that part of what attracts the tourist, look what happened to Spain- they got greedy and now there are no green areas hardly- and if Portugal cant see further than their own noses thats what will happen to them as well. coz i see things from the point of view of a tourist.
