New car prices

Car tax here is governed by engine size not value.€8.50 per cc then subtract €8,500 to get the final amount. Add€200 ish for other bits of paper, plates etc and €4 or 500 to pay someone to do it for you if you don't like queues. You must pay VAT too; better to do so in the UK as it is lower. Car tax is supposed to be phased out from 2007 but I think the EEC has granted a period of 5 or more years to allow this to happen

The major companies such as Europcar and Budget all have deals with the manufacturers and return their cars to them after about 6 months for onward sales (The manufacturers having boosted their sales figures, saved tax and improved the bottom line) but the smaller firms sell direct to the public, usually at the end of the summer season.
