What is the latest advice on satellite reception ?

Post by Guest »

Having read numerous comments on the forum i am still confused.

1. Can you receive British channels in CVO free of charge?
2. What do you need to achieve this and who supplies it?
3. Is it legal ?
4. If it's not possible / legal what is the lowest cost solution ?
5. Any recommendations on installers and likely cost, i already have a 1.5m dish and German only receiver ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Just what we would like to know. Can't wait to read the responses.

Also - Can TV's and DVD's bought in England work OK in the Algarve? We have had conflicting info from friends.

Thanks

We brought out a tv, video and dvd from the uk and they all work fine.

For sat tv it's best to contact RJ Tecnica in Carvoeiro who can advise you on the different options available. Their number is 282 356520.

there is a difference in the sound carriers between uk and portugal tvs in the uk we use pal I. in portugal we use pal BG you can get tv sets that do both standards but they usualy cost more

if you use the scart lead or a phono video connection you can use either tv sets

you can plug in a dvd player by scart and it will work in any tv set but the only problem you may have is the dvd disk they make them regional so some disks wont work unless you get a multi region dvd player

if you brought a dvd and tv from the uk it would work here on dvd .if the tv set was pal bg you would also be able to get portugal terrestial tv ,you could use a uk tv with a sky box also

1. Can you receive British channels in CVO free of charge? yes you can get bbc channels from sky ,and itv channels if you get a viewing card from the uk . you can also get c4 and c5
2. What do you need to achieve this and who supplies it? you will need a sky box [and a viewing card if you want itv c4 c5 ect.] you also need a 1.5 meter dish and a good quality low noise lnb.
3. Is it legal ? technically no but every one is doing it
4. If it's not possible / legal what is the lowest cost solution ? portugal tv or cable
5. Any recommendations on installers and likely cost, i already have a 1.5m dish and German I can get you box and card at uk prices rj technica seem to be good for install

i can give you a telephone number to call me if you wish i do not live all the time in portugal just 3/4 months a year

i hope i explained this enough if not please ask

If you run a UK box with a second card on a UK subsciption, you will get grief from SKY as the contract says you should be conected to a UK landline at all times. Do they check ? Most deifinately, and quite regularly. The result is that they will charge a higher tariff for the second card, but I don't think that they can detect the box is sitting outside the UK.

We brought our tv, video, dvd, satellite receiver etc. from the UK and just had to buy the dish out here. We had a freeview card which works in the Sky receiver and it is perfectly legal to do this, as we own all the equipment.

std sky boxes are free if you subscribe
you can get a card that would decode itv c4 c5 for £20
you can get a receiver and a card for £150 its called freesat.
you can buy a skyplus box for £200

in portugal companys charge many times this buy in the uk its cheaper dont get ripped off
