could anybody give us information on local schools in the CVO area? For children between 7 and 13 years. Thanks.

I am currently looking for a school for my little boy, although he's only 3. I think it really all depends on what you are looking for in a school. You have the choice of the International school where your children can go to either the English or the Portuguese side, the British school or the local Portuguese schools, some of which you pay for.
I am thinking of sending him to a Portuguese school, but there I am stuck as I don't really know much about them and whether there is any significant difference between them.
I don't really have any other information though.

Next time young Joana comes to your yoga class ask her about Portuguese schools she has been going to one since she was 10 months old, now in 10th grade and still loves it.
To anyone looking at schools if you intend to live here forever the local schools are as good or as bad as anywhere else.
For older children, say over 10 almost impossible to expect them to pick up the language and useless for those who only intend to stay only a couple of years.
Having had two girls in the state system here for their entire education we have had no complaints, others not so lucky but a lot depends on the child, if they do not pass each year the child is held back so for slower learners the system may not be so good as others.Our view was always if they had problems we would pay for extra studies outside school hours rather than spend a fortune on international education only to find when they got to 16 their choices where restricted, several here have paid for years for education to find at 16 they have had to move their children to the state system or send them overseas to continue their studies.
Elder daughter has applied for uni in the Uk and has had offers totally based on her Portuguese state education, her choice to go to the Uk, like any 18 year old different is more exciting than being at home !!!.

Actually I hadn't thought of that. If the child is older then sending him/her to a Portuguese school may not be a good idea if they don't already speak Portuguese.

My other problem with that is that I believe the teachers and staff at these schools do not speak English and as I haven't yet learned much Portuguese myself it could prove to be a problem.
