nightclubs

hey i am off to carvoeiro in august 2005 as we have just bought a villa out there. Can anyone recommend any good nightclubs/bars for me and my girls to go to?

I've just come back from Carvoeiro a few days ago. We didn't find any nightclubs. There is the Jailhouse which play's live music and has a small dancefloor but when we went there, we were the only people in there and the Landlord behind the bar was so extremely drunk . I can't say I would ever go again. I suppose during the summer it would be a lot different. The RoundUp bar has country and western music and apparently there is a great Jazz club open during the summer. However, we did find 2 strip clubs and were told about several brothels in the village, (not my cup of tea but it takes all sorts). Carvoeiro is a fantastic place to go and eat though. There must be 70 restauraunts open during the summer. I had some of the best food I'd even tasted there last week.

Only tried Carvoeiro this time. The village came across as a beautiful undeveloped place where tourism hasn't had chance to ruin it. If your into nightclubs then Albufera is the place to go. Its quite a drive but there's music 24/7 clubs, pubs and lots of young people. None stop noise during the summer.

Sam, there is a club right on the beach called O BOTE. In summer most of the bars are lively until quite late.

Hi there - Yes the club on the beach is good and has a foam party too if that takes your fancy, however you dont have to go to an actual 'club' to have a good late night and a dance.Round up bar may have cowboy hats etc but i certainly wouldnt say it was a coutry and western type place. There's all sorts of music and we've had many a night in there til 3am. The owner Will, is a huge guy and such a a lovely man -his wife Karen is great too and its the kind of place where you can even take the kids in quite comfortably and Big Will will even give them toy guns and cowboy hats and if you're (un)lucky give them a good soaking with the big water pistol. Lots of the bars are open til after 1 so you'll definitely have a good late night---and the Bote stays open til about 5am, Have a great time!

Wish the BOTE had been open when I was there. It was Dolly Parton on CD two nights on the trot at RoundUp bar, cowboy hats and boots hanging on the ceiling so Country and western bar description seems fair to me. I'm sure the whole place is completely different in the Summer than it was over this christmas. Hope you enjoy it.

I was in carvoerio in July of last year and places were still quite busy the Bote was quite good that was the only proper club (they also had very popular foam partys). there was also Rascals bar which had karoke!. a few nights me and my friends went through 2 Prai de Rocha (im not sure if thats correct spelling prob not) through ther it was buzzing although taxis through costed quite a bit, hope u hav a gr8 hol!

Can't say I'd recommend Bote, been there once a few years ago, it's small, expensive, and as far as I know still adopts the practise of not charging you till you try to leave! No real reason to go there over any of the excellent bars in the village, except for the ridiculous closing time. The round-up bar is good news for it's huge two pinter beer mugs, Smilers bar is expensive, but it's the one british bar in town wher you're guarenteed to meet plenty of likeminded tourists. My personal fave is just round the corner from smilers, up an alleyway, called Bar bara. Quality place, poisonous shots.

As much as I like Dolly (well, her early music), I'ed shoot myself (or better yet, the bartender) if I had to listen to her two whole nights in a row.

Don't they have any Merle or Waylon or Willie there? George and Tammy would be an improvement over Dolly.

It takes more than cowboy hats and boots hanging from the ceiling to make a C & W bar.....I'll bet they don't even have sawdust on the dance floor.

Have to say my favourite places to drink when I was there last week were Sully's (on the square) just for the sheer size of the measures. Huge glasses full of malibu for 3Euro. Must have been at least 6 shots in one drink. For friendly atmosphere then the HAVANA bar was tops. Ran by a young english couple, the cocktails were amazing, tortilla's covered in melted cheese still served after midnight and great music. They even have proper cushions to snuggle into when the cocktails take effect.
