Bleeker sweetie..we've been wearing them since late '60s..my lot that started it! :P
I kept it up for some time..but finally drew the line when I reached the 'tender' age of 40!! :) ..soon after that my lovely daughter took over!
See ? we're handing it on down the line...but don't hear many complaints...either from you or G I don't think?

I still say that with mini skirts - you've got to have the legs to wear them. Different I suppose in the 60's and 70's. That was all there was to wear, leg shape didn't seem to matter but these days where there are so many fashions about, you really must take a look at the legs to see if you can get away with wearing minis

Dee's words are true of course: leg shape..looking good in minis (mind you this has been rather an over-debated topic on here)
I went thru the mini and hot pants era but would never have worn either without having a 'decent pair of pins'
and the rules should still apply today but do not seem to.The problem of many of todays young women (and no where is it more obvious than here in Lincs) they are so overweight!! ..its a very serious problem..but girls insist on wearing clothes totally unsuitable to their size.
Im aware that Im changing the subject slightly..so forgive me.
Many of these young women..often with one or two babies/young kiddies are HUGE..and I constantly ask myself..how do they get this size with young kids? :o
By 29 I had 3 kiddies and I had trouble keeping weight on me with all the work I had to do.
But suppose diet has a lot to do with it today doesnt it? Too much fast food ..fatty take aways etc..
A survey was done recently on young school kids in Uk..
did you know that many didnt even know what a carrot was? That 'mum' often didnt know how to cook a cabbage
Sorry about this..for wandering off topic...but I dunno about you..I find it all very worrying..
its said now ..that many kiddies today will not outlive their parents..simply because of diet and often total lack of exercise
footnote: as schoolgirl of 16 I won a leg competition (at an evening dancehall)..now they're only suitable for......gardening?

didnt even know what a carrot was? now that is disturbing!

actually ellie on the subject of overweight youth i think its a combination of the fat junk food with not enough to hardly any exercise. a lot of the free time is spent behind computer or television.

as for your daughter...well sounds like its a good thing for the male population of england then you have taught her so well in the arts of mini skirt wearing

I agree with you Ellie but I think that people are blaming the food industry without doing anything about it.
Yes fast food is around but it doesn't mean you have to eat that and only that.

I love eating junk food sometimes but I also make sure I eat healthy stuff every now and then!

I also think parents should educate their children in food stuffs and not blame the food chains for the fact that their kids are overweight.

They are forcing fast food chains to become "healthy" but to be honest, if I fancy a salad, I'm certainly not going to go to McDonald's to get it. :D

MODERATION is the key word here.

Rant over!

Hi Bleeker
Yes it is down to lack of exercise as much as anything I suppose. P.E..& sports used to be compulsory at school but I think theres a certain amount of choice given now as to whether kids take part or not.
In the survey they did another thing mentioned was they found quite a few children did not know how to use a knife & fork when they sat down to school dinners......so letters were being sent out to parents, asking them to teach the kiddies how to eat with knife& fork :o
and as youve said..many are just sitting watching tv all evening/or on computer/play stations etc..
as Thunderbolt says..we/& children can enjoy the odd take-away..but its nice to have ahealthy home-cooked meal..
I always found when mine were little they loved to help with cooking..teaching them to make things..I always enjoyed & encouraged them..
actually had a job once in primary school teaching little 'uns to cook simple things.(I can just see Trickys face when she comes home & sees this..she knows about my cooking!).get 'em while theyre young..and they soon learn!
Sorry G ! for intruding on your holiday topic
which has reminded me..I do see quite a lot of 'family groups' on bicycles specially during holiday time..nice to see and good exercise....
Bicycles abound in Holland dont they Bleeker..so my son told me when he worked there?
Hows the hol going G? Been very very windy that way today I think?

Hehe didn`t know how to use knife and fork?! It gets worse and worse! Now i`m not a parent but i would asume that`s pretty much a must in a childs education! And i agree i think it is as thunderbolt says that moderation is the key word here!

As for bicycles...yes they are quite common here(maybe cause the country is so flat?) and indeed are a good excersize! Used to use it myself to get round till i got a job in Amsterdam and since i live in Purmerend(small town just outside of Amsterdam) i go to work by public transport nowadays.

Hope your son enjoyed his time here! (he`s not sam sparkle is he? hehe)

Windy is an understatement, yesterday I jumped out of the way of a speeding car and landed near Southampton

Talk about english cuisine, I am not surprised that so many brits would kill for some good curry - english cooking seems very tasteless and one-sided (easy on the gravy, luv). I guess our hotel cook does not hold any Michelin stars, but the use of a little seasoning should not be too much to ask.
Although to be fair, the veggies in England are no where near as tasty as in southern countries.

I did go up to New Forrest (thank you for the tip, Ellie :D ) took a stroll around Lyndhurst, the museum, etc. Unfortunately, time did not allow for a visit to the animal reserves.

Come on ..tell me B? or is it a secret ? :) ...is Sam..mm....24 ??
Actually..all joking aside..my son was working there for few months a year or so ago..and he 'complained' about the bicycles..their speed after nearly being knocked dow by one!!
Glad you went to New Forest G..did you see the ponies?..I was lucky once..walking thru there..a little movement in the bushes..and there stood a fawn( I always call them bambis  ) looking at me..nice moment!
Have you had chance to go over to the sandbanks..from Poole? Nice weather..white sands..but need the WEATHER! :) better in summertime.
Hope its nicer for you today :)
