August in Carvoeiro

Post by algarve123 »

Hi all,

We are heading out to Carvoeiro this August and are really looking forward to it. Although we are frequent visitors to Carvoeiro, we always go in April/early May or late Sepetember/October and believe it or not have never been in peak season.

We were just wondering if there is anything particularly different we should expect or aim to do at that time of year e.g. excursions, events, activities etc. that wouldn't be available at the off peak times we normally go at.

Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. :D

Yes e-richard, we have definitely resigned to that fact already from what we have been told over the years. We don't mind, the more the merrier! :D

There will be a lot more live music - both in the square and in bars.

You might find that you need to book a table at popular restaurants but because of the heat they are open later.

If you are there at the end of August then go to Faticil at Lagoa - it's their version of a county show.

Expect queues at the airport car rental stands and also at security when you are coming home.

If you haven't been to Zoomarine then that is worth a trip.

Small beaches get crowded with Portuguese during the school holidays but seek out sme more out of the way beaches and you could still have them all to yourself.

Thanks Farol, we will certainly aim to go to Fatacil in Lagoa.

The Fiesa Sand Sulpture in Pera is very good, its also open on a night with all the sculptures lit up (very hot in day because of all the sand)

And if you are there from the 7 - 16 August, the Medieval Festival at Silves is a must, all the street are transported back in time with all the towns people dressed up. Streets packed with market stalls. On an evening there is entertainment, hog roasts etc. We go every year. You can even hire a costume if you fancy.
