children's hospital / respite care centre?
children's hospital / respite care centre?
Is there any children's hospitals or respite care places in the Algarve that would be suitable for this? I want to organise a run with some high end cars, it'll just be a small one - 2 lamborghinis confirmed already and maybe a porsche turbo / ferrari 458. We could stop off at a kids hospital or whatever and let them take a look at the cars, or if they're fit enough we can take them out on passenger rides etc.
I done this before when I lived in Prague and it was awesome to let the kids have a bit of fun for a few hours, I'd love to do it again here if there is somewhere viable we can go

Octopus, sometimes a forum member would come up with a unique random act of kindness and your idea is one of them. What a wonderful suggestion. I wish you all the best on this venture and that the authorities responsible give you all the assistance you need.
I often walk past the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in nearby Holborn. During the warm weather the parents and/or nurses of the children would take them out onto the adjoining street garden square just to get some open air. You would see some of the children and young adults looking very ill and attached to wires and tubes to machinery. It is heartbreaking to see these children suffer from their illnesses and they don't have what we take for granted - good health.
Maybe even a good idea to get the local press on this event or contact the Algarve Resident, I am sure they would do a feature on it and that it could raise additional donations etc.

Thanks roy4eyes, I have emailed her. James Faro - I've seen articles like that done in the past and I don't think they'd really help the home itself. If it would then I'd do it, but otherwise I think it just generates unwanted publicity for the participants. I work in an industry that the government would love to regulate prices in and newspapers are constantly crying that the charges are unfair... it just doesn't do me any favours if me and my business partner are parading around in the news in a couple of cars like that

Re: children's hospital / respite care centre?
Spoke to Peta today and we are going to do something with them in the future but its going to take a bit of work to set up.... I'm looking to do something else on Tuesday-Wednesday if anyone knows any connections that are interested
Business partner is having his car delivered Monday and flies home Thursday so we've got a tight window to fit something into, unfortunately.

We visited the childrens home a few years back and took a chq to them following a beef sale we did on the farm( when we were on the farm before moving to Lyme Regis) and proceeds went to them. It was a real pleasure going there to see the place and to know one helped them.
I do hope your venture goes well with making loads of money for this little place that desperately needs as much help to improve the lives of the children there in their care.
