I know, I know - this has been discussed before but I can not find it anywhere. I am seriuosly considering coming to CVO for four nights incorporating New Year. I have been regularly in May / June but have no idea of facilities / atmosphere in late December. Ideally I would love "some" restuarants and bars to be open and for there to be "some" people wandering about creating a little atmosphere. Any comments / thoughts (ideally naming open restuarants) much appreciated. Or, tell me how to get to a link where this has been debated previously. I notice on the holiday planner LICY has booked at the time, so LICY, do you know something ?? Thanks

We have been visiting over New year for some time but always go to one of the bigger resorts for NYE as they have concerts, fireworks with many places re opening for a couple of nights.
We have always got the impression that Carvoeiro is more what you make it rather than anything arranged ie a bar crawl after a meal.
We have heard jokes that Albufeira, lagos and Portimao spend tens of thousands of euros on fireworks and Carvoeiro has a " rocket ".
You can never rely on the weather but it would be nice if something could be arranged in the square as in the summer.

last year 20111/12 the fireworks in Portimao lasted about 2 mins.

Thanks guys. Being an old boring f**t, I am not really interested in fireworks to see in the new year. I am more than happy to have a decent meal and then to chill over a bottle of something decent or a glass or three of port in good company.
Knowing most of the eateries in CVO I was hoping for names of actual restaurants that have opened historically at this time of year. Plus any bars. Just don't want to travel and then be stuck in a "ghost town"!! Any info gratefully appreciated.

Bonbon does a lovely New Year dinner (not cheap but good value) and have their own firework display plus a good view over Portimao to see theirs.

Thanks Roy. I know I said I know most eateries in CVO but I am not familiar with Bonbon. Where are they?

From the Sesmarias water tower go towards Lagoa and it is about 50m on your left.

On your next visit try it on Friday when they have a very good duo/trio playing - contact us and we may join you (any excuse !!).
