USB Dongles
Any new developments? Because we don't come out in the summer months, will a payg dongle deactivate if it's not used?

Re: USB Dongles
I have a Vodafone Vita Net dongle, works very well, but it does have to be topped-up within 6 months of purchase and again during each subsequent 6 month period.
Re: USB Dongles
I have a Vodafone dongle and it needs topping up every 180 days. Because of the dates that I travel to CVO I find that effectively I have to top up 3 times a year in order to keep it active. (last time was Oct '11, next time will be Feby, then June and finally Oct, If I don't stick to these months it will expire before the following visit) There's a little icon that appears in the bottom left hand of screen and it gives the expiry date either when you connect or just after you disconnect, sorry, can't recall which. Intermarche top it up with the vodafone 'card'.

Re: USB Dongles
Can they be topped up from the UK? Do they have an installation CD? We only take out a netbook that doesn't have a optical drive.

Re: USB Dongles
Just seen elsewhere that they can be topped up at multi banco, so I could always give a wad of euros to a nice friendly ex-pat and ask them to do it for me?
Re: USB Dongles
We can top up our Kanguru dongle on line in the UK but normally use the multi banco down in the town when in Caevoeiro. No installation cd needed.
Re: USB Dongles
we only take the netbook too and no installation was necessary. if you are concerned that it might expire before the next visit why don't you give vodafone a call in the uk and maybe they will top it up for you.laserblazer wrote:Can they be topped up from the UK? Re: USB Dongles
I don't think that will work, vodafone UK and vodafone pt are separate companies. Do the dongles have to be used in the 6 months period or just topped up? The Kanguru one looks better if it can be topped up from the UK.

TMN dongles never "run out" no time limit on use or level of subscription.

Re: USB Dongles
Ive just checked my PT dongle from vodafone and it says "unlimited" - I have a feeling that when I bought it the guy said it did not have a time limit - I will check at vodafone at the airport next week when I am back in CVO

Below is a Google Translate of the relevant page at Vodaphone.pt website
I cannot say that I am much the wiser, but maybe others can wade through this with more success.

Re: USB Dongles
I eat plenty of bran and I'm much more regular than that, so I should be ok.To keep the vita net service active, just do a load every 120 days
Re: USB Dongles
Hi,
I use a VF top up dongle for business when I'm in Cvo and it's as efficient as my broadband at home ( which is very speedy ). I have used the same dongle for about 2 years, top it up at an MB or VF in Algarve Shopping ( there may be one in Aqua now too ) by paying 10 euros for 10 hours ( or multiples of) and I can recommed it. The initial dongle cost me 30 euros for 6 months use and I was told I'd have to pay that again every 6 months, but I haven't had to; I just top the hours up and it works.
The guys at VF Algarve shopping were very good and explained it all to me and installed it for me there & then too on my laptop.

Re: USB Dongles
I still need REAL internet as could not get anyone to open up on NYE or indeed on 2.1.12, despite the concession in intermarche saying re-opens after lunch at 3pm. Has anyone heard of deals for phone and internet only relevant for 2012. Do not want TV.
