Prices??

Post by Annie 2 »

Hoping someone could give me an idea on the average price you could expect to pay for eating out per couple (no kids), lunch and dinner? Also, how much is a large beer, are spirits expensive and finally, a bottle of wine (local, of course)? We just want to make sure that we have not under budgeted for our long awaited holiday!! Thanks in advance :-)

Also, is the bus service good in the Algarve? Would like to visit Portimao, Alvor, Carvoeiro and Faro over the 2 weeks. Spent a fortune on taxi's last year from Vilamoura, so this year we think we will try using more buses, if possible.

Sorry you didn't get much help on this subject Annie 2. I can't offer much help myself but felt sorry for you!

When we went to cvo in June there was four of us (two couples) and the evening meal varied from night to night dependent upon where we ate. We once paid €205!! but that was in O Patio (needless to say, we didn't make a habit of that!) and one night we paid €80 in Maximes (big difference) so better to take more money if possible and hopefully you will be bringing some home for the next holiday

Bye the way - we hired a car, much cheaper and quicker to see all the sights and you're not restricted by time.

Have a great time in cvo 8)

If you can hire a car, its much easier and only about £10 a day (Maybe £12 inc Add cover) but yes buses are OK but you really have togo to the central bus station at Lagoa and its a long walk or another taxi ride...Hire a car. Meals ..depends where and where of course and what you eat....in Carvoeiro centre it costs for a starter and a nice meal about £12 each plus wine....but in Portimao very good local places cost half that ..excellent food ...and 'Prato de Dia ..nice three course lunches are £4 at most places (Euro 6)...there is one place in Carvoeiro that you get a salad starter + soup + a choice of main course + coffee and a wicked 'Shot' of something at the end + a litre of wine or a couple of pints of beer...all for £5....one has to be there early cause all the Brits are now packing the place unfortunately...and its always noisy because theres always 'One'..is there not ..always Female and being a (Verbal) pain....OK thats the moan...Beer is from £1 a pint to £3 depends where....(In the north its £0.5)
Have fun ..and if you hire a car...you will save not only on Taxis but you can go to cheaper places.

Thanks Dee and Guest for your replies. The prices you've given me are a bit lower than I was expecting tb2G!! Can't wait to get to the sun now. I don't think myself or my hubby would be brave enough to drive in Portugal, so I guess it will be a case of taxi's and buses. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Best wishes!!

We were last there in May and found that most restaurants averaged 33 Euros for two (including wine), which we consider is very good value.
