Trouble in the resorts?
Hi All,
We have a trip planned to Carvoeiro on 28th June and we are getting increasingly concerned about reports of trouble in the resorts. Yesterday I heard on a Radio 2 phone-in that the police are the real trouble makers, there were eyewitnesses that were phoning in saying that police were running into groups of fans and hitting them at random with their batons.
It’s even getting to stage of maybe cancelling the holiday, I’m just hoping Carvoeiro is far away from the main resorts to escape this kind of nonsense.
My question really is what’s it like in Carvoeiro, any real trouble? Any large police presence?

Oh my, carvoeiro police and running would be a contradiction in terms - dont worry, if you stay clear of places like Albufeira you will not find anything other than peaceful footie enthusiasts - take a look at the webcam on Sunday night around 10pm - hundreds of poeple celebrating Portugals victory on the square - no trouble at all.

Some friends of mine have just returned from their first visit to the Algarve and they were staying in Albufeira. They stayed close to the old town and they did not see any trouble at all.
I think the trouble is very localised on "the strip" in Albufeira and everybody have avoided the 'orrible English holigans..

Was out in CVO last week and there wasn't a hint of trouble, in fact the atmosphere was wery friendly and good-natured. There were some Croatian's on Saturday night who were drinking and singing with a large group of England fans.
We were also up in Lisbon for the France match and didn't see any trouble there either, despite the vast number of Englane supporters. I had a singing lesson from some Russian fans on the Metro!!

Carvoeiro and Football

Really don't think there is anything to worry about in Carvoeiro. I have been in Louie's bar (big screen) on Restaurant Hill for 2 of the England games - Loads of English fans in their shirts, but true ones behaving impeccably who only want to cheer on their team. Atmosphere great so don't worry, come out and enjoy your holiday!
