Spanish Air Traffic Controllers strike

Post by widge »

First the French and now the Spanish intend to wreck the Brits holidays in August.

The date for the strike has not yet been set but it is expected to start on August 18.

In February this year the government slashed controllers salaries by around 40 per cent – cutting the average wage from £290,000-a-year to £167,000 – after it was revealed some enjoyed pay of up to £800,000-a-year.

In Britain the same workers earn a basic salary of between £60,000 and £90,000-a-year, according to National Air Traffic Services.

Nice work if you can get it !!!!!

Previous French and Spanish work to rules affected flights with some cancellations a full strike can only result in even more delays and cancellations . The ATC were bought off by an past goverment in Spain.
We have a friend who works in ATC training in Sweden, in Spain so well paid are the jobs that new entrants have to pay for their training such is the demand for these well paid jobs.

This is a bit of a worry. I think we will probably be ok flying from Prestwick on the 22nd, but some of our party are travelling from Stansted. Ryanair are not noted for their customer service when things go pear-shaped.
