Scruffs - September

Post by James Faro »

Is anybody going to the Scruffs event in September? Let me know how it gets on and post a few pics if you can!

I read on the website of Associação de Protecção Animal do Algarve that they were left €100,000 in December 2009 which is a wonderful magnanimous gesture.

Whomever passed on; left a gift of extreme kindness that will benefit many animals for years to come. It really puts faith back in human nature. :D

APAA is a great organisation & it needs all the support it can get. I go to SCRUFTS every year, alway enjoy it, various friends have stalls there & it's always nice to catch up with people you haven't seen for a while. :D

A very worthy cause. I always make sure when I am in the Algarve to visit Lagos as there a load of dogs outsides the shops having a snooze. They are definitely "gentlemen of the streets" but they seem to be well cared for or at least fed by shop owners/tourists.

latest news here

"The Association for the Protection of Animals in the Algarve (APAA) is pleased to announce that the main sponsor for the 11th Scruffts Dog Show at Fatacil in Lagoa, Algarve, is Skinners Pet Foods (from Eye in Suffolk United Kingdom) who will have a representative to give advice on pet nutrition and related matters at their stand.

Jo Wheeler, freelance television broadcaster and Sky News Weather Presenter, will officially open the Show at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday September 19th. Returning as judge for the mixed breed classes is Georgie Saffin from the Portuguese Kennel Club.

Another feature of this year’s Show is that the Portuguese dog magazine “Cães e Companhia“ will be giving out a copy of their magazine to all visitors.

“We are pleased,” says APAA President Alan Camplin-Smith, “that this year we have a number of other animal charities including ADAP, The Donkey Sanctuary and from Lisbon, the Bianca Organisation all of which will be with us, pioneering a unified approach to animal welfare. We are delighted that Skinner’s Pet Foods will be our main sponsor and their products will be given as prizes to all winners.”

A number of trade stands have already been booked - with pet products, dog grooming, dog hotels, pet photography featuring at the Show. As last year, there will be 17 pedigree and mixed breed judging classes with prizes and cups for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, and for the winner in each class a voucher for a pet portrait by John Olivers Photography.
