Bank Machines CVO
My sister will be stranded in the Algarve until till flights to UK resume ay some point. She is supposed to be leaving Monday to fly back to Cardiff.
Thank Goodness she is at our apartment in CVO and not a hotel. trouble is she has a Barclays Visa card BUT the Bank machines won't accept, keep rejecting. She is running out of dosh, no credit card just her debit card. Has this happened to anyone else before. Trying to get hold of her bank is to peak to a HUMAN is proving hard so not sure how we go ahead from here. Any suggestions no matter how small. I'm helpless being over in Holland Aggggggg so frustrating....

It may help if we knew the actual message that came up, but I'm going to guess that with thousands of other stranded travellers and it being the weekend, the machine has simply run out of cash.
If this is the case, jump in a car and head out of touristville into Lagoa where there are many banks with machines - or my secret one is the Galp petrol station on the N125 at Lagoa.

She may need to speak to the bank and let them know that she is in Portugal. It happened to me a few months ago when I was out in CVO and the machine refused to give me cash. I eventually got through to the bank and they said that they had put a hold on it as they didn't know I was out of the country. I did ask why they didn't try to contact me as they have all my details but apparently that is not their policy!
Could she go into a bank on Monday with her passport and get cash that way?

many thanks AVO she suspects it's because she is out of the country. Do you mean she can go into any bank and get cash from her card?

I had the same problem with Barclays many years ago. My husband was in the Uk and rang them - they said I had not told them I was going out of the Country. This was despite the fact that we owned a property in Carvoeiro for which we had a mortgage from - yes, you've guessed it - Barclays.
As mentioned previously - either the machines have run out of cash or she needs to contact her bank to take the hold off the card. There are two branches of Barclays locally - one in Carvoeiro and one in Lagoa, so she could try them.

Thanks to all, Sis has called Barclays and yes correct they blocked it because she is out of the country. Now released card, all is good, has money, sunny, happy and stuck in CVO . Life's a bitch and I'm stuck in Holland!
I knew I could trust fellow CVO'ers to give us some advise and thanks Tricky for your personal email, it helps to know we have online support! So if anyone see a Welsh girl by the name of Dianne, built like a prop forward, still is CVO and frequenting Jokers, it's my lil sis!!!
