Evidently in certain contries - mexico is one where cicadas are as prolific as ants, and also china where they are nearly as common as people - they do eat them! - grilled on skewers. o the next time you see what looks like a prawn kebab........

Thankyou all so much , was feeling under the weather and now have the giggles ( normally not a problem but I am in Stockton library !! ) . I never saw one of these beasties when I lived in the country around Alcantarilha , I did see a flourescent lime green spider the size of a fifty pence though......yuck glow in the dark spiders !!!

Reminds me of market day in Monchique - there's usually an old chap standing outside the little market hall with a tray full of nice and crispy grilled lizards for sale!

We have cicadas in Canada (also called tree frogs) but they are a lot smaller than that Big Boy!
