Hello from a newbie!
Hello from a newbie!
Hi all. I've recently joined your forum as we are coming out to Carvoeiro for the first time at easter. I've found loads of great info & tips from lots of the posts & its great to get up to date advice. I'm slightly worried about our trip as a lot of the posts seem to have replies from some very grumpy people who seem to put people down or start an argument at the drop of a hat. Some of the forums make for very interesting readings & I feel I know alot of you already! I'm hoping that Carvoeiro is not a clicky place but some of the posts do give that impression. Anyway, if anyone can reccommend places to visit nearby & their favourite haunts I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Carvoeiro is a lovely place with many good restaurants and bars but nicely quiet so not a 'Majorca' type of place at all. If you have transport then do go to Silves and have a walk around the very beautiful city and the ruined castle, also drive up to Caldas de Monchique a spa village where you can taste the water for a fee ad have a great meal at Rouxinol just up the road from the turning to Caldas. Lagos west on the N125 is lovely, there is a marina with cafes to sit in and watch the boats and people go by. The Algarve shopping centre is east on the N125 at Guia it has some good home and clothes shops as well as a huge supermarket which has a great selection of fresh veg and food.
Have a great holiday we love the place because it is so friendly and nice.

Couldn't have put it better myself - there are those who seem to be masters of the put-down. - Don't worry, they are the minority who think a Forum is just a facility to have a moan.
We visit Carvoeiro twice a year and we're you will enjoy your visit. Plenty of restaurants and bars - some 5-star some 2-star, and some in between. Checking them out for yourself is part of the fun. As you've been told, there are lots of nice places within reasonable striking distance if you wish to spread your wings.
Carvoeiro is not a 'clicky' place - it's just these forums that can be a bit that way.
Have a good 'un.

Hi Satsuma,
I've been to CVO the last 3 years and are thinking of going again in June.
This forum is a little clicky but I enjoy the banter nonetheless, even though criticism of CVO is not often tolerated!
What I will say this that restaurants are at best average in CVO, so I would try places like Silves, Lagoa and Ferragudo.
Regards
Snaj

Re: Hello from a newbie!
When we first purchased our place in CVO 5 years ago we also found this forum really helpful and still do on the odd occasion we need advise. CVO is a great place and certainly does NOT reflect the odd put down by some people on this forum. Once you have got to know us you get a bit thick skinned to it all and there is no real harm in any of us. I always think if I don't like a topic I start reading I don't read it. There are many other topics that you can join in on and also have fun contributing too. Having met quite a few forum members over the years in CVO (even the ones that can be a bit e-vocal) they tend to be pussy cats really. So have a great time this year. Gary and I are our end of May and can't wait, been a long winter here in Holland

..oh yes forgot to mention, look at the restaurant reviews on the forum, but also have fun exploring and checking them out yourself. One of our fav is Elle and Ella for CVO posh nosh, Ma Ja's for Sunday Roast (that's limited here in Holland) Maximes, Jota Lita, blimey too many really but on average it's all pretty much OK.
Good luck and have fun

Re: Hello from a newbie!
Don't worry about the 'bad' stuff you read on this forum, or the 'bad' people. Everyone thought that when pato and I met a while back there'd be fisticuffs . . . and instead we got on like a house on fire! We were both surprised at how charming each other was. If you'd read our earlier posts to each other you'd have got very poor odds on a fight breaking out.
So, enjoy your Easter holiday (I wish I was there, but I have to wait 'til Christmas).

Hi Satsuma hope your stay is enjoyable there are plenty of things to do and see excellent walks both short and for the more experienced long more arduous one's,plenty of bars to watch the footie or sport in general if you are so inclined plus of course a number of restaurants varying in price and quality. We have been coming to CVO for 5 years now as we have a place of our own each time we find something different to see and do.
Re: Hello from a newbie!
Hi Satsuma, you'll love CVO, wonderful place to fall in love with. Been coming for over ten years with my wife and kids, and bought a place out here a couple of years ago. Now try to go as often as possible. It's a little enclave with great character and wonderful people, even the "Grumps"

Hello Satsuma,
Im sure you will love it there !
We lived there once (in early 90s) in Lagoa...had a business near Algoz. The plan is now to retire back there, once we've sold this place.
Was a wonderful life-style & hope to get back to it!
Have a lovely holiday
