Re: October visit
The Cinema at either Portimao or the Algarve shopping centre at Guia is a good bet, a little cheaper than at home most film's are in English my wife and I go most visits to CVO,there is an OAP'S DAY which is less again but I am not sure which day that is, hope that give's you at least one idea.

Re: October visit
We have brough our parents out each October for the past 7 years (now aged 79,80 and 87 - so definitely no long walks!) Its usually sunny and warm without being unbearably hot (they cant cope with that!). As well as the places others have already listed, we have found the following to be successful:
1. Tavira ( park in the town centre besides the river) - pleasant stroll and a coffee.
2. Cliff Richards vineyard tour (only a short walk) - its behind Algarve shopping - book in advance -http://www.winesvidanova.com/visiting.htm
3. Drive to Monchique and then west to Aljezur (pretty route) and down to coast at the beautiful beach of Praia Monte Clerigo for a drink/ paddle ( not really a swimming beach though). Then continue southwards down the west coast (past lots of cork trees) to the motorway for a quick return.
Hope this helps!
