Car break in

My car decided to die on me on friday afternoon and so I went down to Auto Jardim to hire one whilst mine is being fixed. On sunday I went to the beach at Club Atlantico and parked up, but returned to find the police waiting by the car as it had been broken into. They do routine checks up there and noticed ours had been done. Just to warn anyone who goes up there, the police said it happens all the time (mostly with hire cars). When I returned the car this morning to Auto Jardim they told me they have one or two returned to the Carvoeiro office alone everyday and they tell people just not to bother locking it at all so they won't damage the car.
I do not want to scare anyone looking at this site because they want to come on holiday here and be put off because of crime in Carvoeiro, in my 20 years of coming to Carvoeiro this is the only time I have had a problem. I just want everyone to be aware and not to leave anything in the car
