Ceramic name plaques

Post by destroyer »

Some years ago we bought in Alvor a small plaque in yellow, blue and white with our family name on it, "Famalia Whatever". It's about two inches by three and sits vey nicely under the light outside our front door. We paid for the thing, left our details, and it was posted on to us.
When we were over in July we thought we'd buy one for our friends. However, couldn't find them in Alvor, Carvoeiro, Lagos, Albufeira, or in fact anywhere.
It may be simply that they became uneconomic to produce. However, would be grateful to hear if anyone has seen these about lately. We're over in October so could pick one up then,
Cheers

Sorry can't help with the place you describe but we had a lovely name plaque done at Porches pottery for our house. They will do just about anything you ask them.

Thank you, Lesley Jean. Will give them a go. I'd not thought of them to be honest as I guess I'd always imagined they would deal only in pretty significant pieces.

Hi Destroyer :)
I don't know about a plaque....but we bought individual ceramic letters to spell out our house name here in Lincs. That was 5 years ago...they are quite beautiful and we bought them at Casa Grade pottery, along the EN 125 Porches
Tel: 282 352397
These letters are set in lovely orangey surround which is decorated.
We had them set into a piece of oak, at my artist friend Judith's shop.
It has been on our house wall for 5 years and there is no wear or deterioration. It looks as lovely as the day we put it up :)
Don't know if this is of any help.

Ive got the full address if you should want it.
We bought loadsa things in there (including the ceramic letters) and they were sent to us here in Lincs in a small tea chest.

There's a pottery shop right at the very end of the out road, just before it joins the in road, on the right hand side where they will make up (almost) anything to order.

I know the place. They made me mateus shaped ceramic wine coolers and painted them to match my other tableware. Had I thought of it earlier I would have had him paint the name of our villa on it too.

Much obliged all. Ellie, I know the place you mean. Looks like a few pottery visits in OCtober. My only worry is that, having set out to buy a plaque at around fifteen quid, I suspect my life savings may now be in jeopardy.

I can't remember the cost of the letters destroyer. We bought loadsa things, pottery, plates, some pictures, which came to about £100. They were sent to us in small tea chest, I remember the postage was £36 (took about a month,so must have been overland)
Not a single item was broken :)
Nice folk in the Casa Grade. The old chap died a few years ago but his son and daughter were running it last time I was there. They are cousins of Geninia who owns Colombos.
Wherever you buy, hope you get what you're looking for

We have used Casa Grade for a number of decorative tile sets. They also produced a custom design for our villa name, and this took about 2 weeks to make. The cost seemed to work out at about 6 euros per tile.

We bought a "Familia *****" plaque from Casa Grade. We can endorse the previous recommendations.
