Before I start some people at work call me Dr Doom but as they say a pessimist is never disappointed. I think G is wrong if he thinks the Germans and Scandanavians are going to pick up the baton as all of Europe east and west are now entering a rapid downturn which in my opinion will last for a very long time. I predict house prices in the UK allowing for inflation will drop by 50 - 60 percent in the next 3 years and will take more than 10 years to recover. Good for my boys who now may be able to afford to buy from 2011 onwards. Basically the western world is broke they have to much debt and now its time to pay the piper. Be prepared for many strikes as not many people will accept 2 - 3 percent pay rises MPs included (they only want 21%). If you think its bad now then wait and see how you feel middle of next year ! Im not political but our dear Gordon is dead in the water and you probably wont see another Labour goverment for at least 10 - 15 years once they are ousted. Maybe some good will come of this once everyone reflects on the mistakes made and hopefully get rid of this greed is good culture.

From our perspective as a company, I can say to a reasonable degree of certainty, that a lot of clients are returning from Germany after almost half a decade of absence.
However, in most cases, the duration and cost of a holiday has been shortened considerably compared to 10 years ago when clients would come twice per year, 2-3 weeks each time.
Resulting from this is the aforementioned stiffer competition in the industry as service providers joust for position and for patrons.
Objectively, a move towards higher qualitative levels seems to be the only correct move, as people travelling on a budget will feel the pinch of a fuel hike or exchange rate drop much harder than people with some loose change.
Consequently, package and all inclusive resorts will inevitably have to deal with a sharper decline in travellers than resorts like Carvoeiro, which has always been positioned slightly up-market.
Therefore, whilst the region as a whole may suffer from the recession and economic crisis throughout Europe, Carvoeiro as an individual resort does imho, stand a chance to get through this with little more than a black eye if it is able to hold and build upon the levels of quality that have been established.
Ultimately, people need holidays and going to visit the folks in Bournemouth or Bremerhaven for the third year running does tend to loose it's appeal somewhat.
