I would say Lee_Helen as well as making the most of the beautiful coastal scenery--go inland and explore a little and eat where the locals eat --mix with the Portuguese folk--and you'll soon make good friends (friends for life!)---but Im sure there are many on here that will have their favourite suggestions for you :) Ellie
sorry--Ive put more than one thing!

If I may tag on to this topic instead of starting a new topic. I plan to spend a day or two in Evora, I have heard that it is one of the most historical and beautiful cities in Portugal. I wonder if there is someone who could give me some info as to where to stay. I know there is a pousada there but the price is quite steep.

Digger...If I might add to this a lunch or a coffee break at the Algar Seco Parque Bistro is well worth the stop, beautiful view from their patio. Although you might have to feed a pesty seagull or two. :)

Do visit 'Silves'--the old Arab capital of 'El Gharb'!
When I had visitors to Lagoa they really liked going to Silves--the castle and Cathedral--you can drive up but we usually walk it.
Also a nice place to lunch --at pastelarias along the pedestrianised streets --and afterwards--if its hot--sit on the benches by the river ---really refreshing---you'll enjoy it :)
P.S. or you can eat at the 'cafe Inglese' on the steps up to the castle!
