Hopefully this will help to understand what is going on in Portugal.
Obviously the prices vary from place to place.Take the example of the difference in price for a coffee in Cvo, in Lagoa and in Almancil ( Quinta do Lago) areas, for instance.

I expected an analysis of the local price differences between CVO, Lagoa, Silves and Portimao, maybe compared on a shopping basket basis with maybe Lisbon and the north.
That Lloyds review is such a broad brush approach, that it doesnt tell the man in the street anything at all.

What would be interesting is if some inspired soul would do a forum research project, and compare a shopping basket of maybe 15 or 20 items of say bread, milk, butter, six pack of beer, a commonly available bottle of red and white wine, a six pack of water, a medium sized frango, a kilo of beef, a kilo of tomatoes....whatever you like.

We could survey CVO Intermarche, Lagoa Modelo, the supermarket at Silves, Continiente at Guia and Portimao, and maybe the new one at the new shopping area on the N125 just beyond Portimao.

Then publish the results on the forum.

I for one would be really interested to see the results of that.

Hi Bruce,
I,m heading over to Armacao on the forth for a week and I,ll give it a go for you if you like .Mind you compared to Cvo I reckon Armacao is fairly cheap.Anyway i,ll be in the local Marachinno and Algarve shopping so if we get a fairly short standard list together we can see how it goes.
Just as a matter of interest back in the late summer I was able to buy a sack of flaked maize for Francine for eight fifty now its eleven euro,guy in the coop reckons world grain prices have gone through the roof.

(hope Ive got my facts right here)..I think the rise in grain prices such as Maize is because more and more farmers in the U.S are being encouraged to produce 'bio fuels' from their crops...and are being paid grants ? by the government and they are guarranteed good prices, and so the price of our grains and cereals will increase, as they may 'possibly ' become scarcer as a food crop?
imagine this is going on here in Europe too?
not sure if Ive put that correctly..hope so
