I very much enjoyed K-Pax and thought it was under-rated, although as I have already said the trailers didn't sell it accurately - therefore I am desperate to hear what you think of it. Please watch it soon.

I was going to borrow K-Pax today, but I sunk into a (supposedly short) game of Team Fortress Classic at 16:00 which ended now (20:00) and I will have to leave it for the weekend

It is on my to-do list, tho.

I would like to diverge a little bit off the "film" topic and ask what people think of recent animated motion pictures such as Finding Nemo, Shrek or Monsters Inc.?
Having watched Finding Nemo a few days ago, I found a surprising amount of emotional intensity in that particular movie. Did anybody else think this film strayed off the usual Disney comedy?
How much acting value can you attribute to people like John Goodman, Eddie Murphy or David Spade, considering that they have to match their vocal expressions up to a drawn image and at the same time convey the desired emotion?

Ellie, I have not seen Salems Lot. Sounds like a winner.
Loved the Green Mile. Glad they got Tom Hanks to do that film. Tom Hanks is another actor that is one of my favorites.

Yes, I do live in the States. In Nebraska which is about in the center of country. Presently, we are buried under 10 inches of snow and the temp is 19 F. The kind of weather that promotes movie watching.

I will be visiting CVO for first time in late March with spouse and 5 other couples. Look forward to getting away from ice and snow. Gorr0

Yes--youll like Salems Lot gorrO--try to get a copy to watch. David Soul is very good(remember him in Starsky& Hutch?)and of course the wonderful "James Mason"--who played some great roles in his long career
I wont spoil it for you--but theres a "thing" in a box thats delivered in a truck------very scary'
I was reminded of this incident--when we had to deliver a large box to a quiet remote spot (when we lived in Algarve)which was very eerie.Its in my short story on Ellies corner called"strange cargo" and I kept thinking of the film

Algarve can be lovely in March---beautiful wild flowers everywhere and should get plenty of sun and warmth. Weve had lovely Christmases there too ---perfect weather around 70 f. Im sure you'll love it

Have to say I enjoyed both Shrek and Finding Nemo, I think the Disney animations are a whole different kettle of fish these days - most of them are clever enough to have a subtle parallel story or message which works for the adults and are often hilariously funny and then crushingly sad with parents and children often being moved emotionally at different points.

I think the actors do very well with them and that is another difference these days with much more prominent household names voicing the differents parts and bringing something of themselves to them - for the most part they appear to be casting well with the actor tying in beautifully with the character of the character!

Having said all, I do not necessarily actively seek those films out but always enjoy watching them when I find myself in front of one.

Is there anywhere in CVO that we can rent DVDs (of the PAL format)? We are planning a couple of afternoons by the log fire

and may like to watch a film. Don;t really want to take any with us.

In my opinion no film is worth watching unless it has Denzal Washington in it

Hi Helen,

There are no video stores in Carvoeiro as far as I am aware (The one in Farol closed down) but if you take a short trip to Lagoa you can find a video store there.
The best way to get to it is driving in to Lagoa past the Blue Elefant, going down the left road which leads you past the Bombeiros towards the park. Park the car here and walk in to the shopping street to your right, take the next right and the video store is about 20 meters on the left. Open 16:00 to 22:00, closed Sundays.

Good selection of new DVDs - not much in terms of older movies (past 4 or 5 years)

Agree with you on Denzel Washington Helen---Ihave one of his films here--Shakespeares"Much Ado about nothing" and really enjoyed him as the Duke!
Maddi--Im nearly half through K-Pax and getting into it---let you know my thoughts on it tomorrow!

gorrO----another good film made from Stephen King short story--called "Apt Pupil" starring Ian Mckellen (or should i say Sir Ian)hes excellent in it----plays an ex-nazi--whos discovered by a young American student(cant recall this actors name) but he too is excellent!

Mads I finished watching K-Pax last night and it kept me gripped to the end---I was quite mesmorised by kevin Spaceys performance--he is easily becoming tops in US acting league I think ?
Dont know if youve heard --but hes been made artistic director of the Old Vic theatre at Waterloo London--and he starts the season there in autumn2004-be very interesting to see his influence on new productions

G --just finished watching "Chicago" and really enjoyed it---thought Renee Zellweger excellent and deserved her oscar(but then Im a great fan!)---cant wait to see her in the next "Bridget Jones" movie

Cant say goodnight without paying tribute to one of Britains finest screen actors "Alan Bates"---who sadly, passed away today.
His perfomances in films such as
"Women in Love"
"A kind of loving"
"Far from the madding crowd"
"The go-between"
"Return of the soldier"-----and on TV in "An Englishman abroad"(where he played spy Guy Burgess) and in Thomas Hardys "Mayor of Casterbridge"
were memorable!
At 69 he still had much more to offer and will be greatly missed.
I mourn his passing.
