Well to get UK Sky through a dish, you are going to need the biggest dish in the world, unfortunately! I have one and I do use it. It is valid in Portugal. There are some disabled parking spaces around and in most car parks and I do find them useful.

You can pay to use the pools at Tivoli Almansor and Colina Village to my knowledge. There are probably quite a few others you can use too. There's also the public swimming pool in Lagoa.

Oh yes, I can see where they are coming from with that. We do get the exemption, as we are residents, but I was hoping that we wouldn't suddenly be asked to pay it back if the valuation of our house was increased suddenly!

Thanks Biffa. I think ours comes into the under 150,000 tax value. Its probably worth a lot more than that now as we've had work done, most of it very recently, but I guess the tax value is still low (well I hope!)

Can I just ask a quick Q? This property tax, is that the same tax that you are exempt from paying for 7 years if it is your first property purchase in Portugal? Or have I got that completely wrapped around my neck??

Its a a traditional Portuguese house though in the style of a townhouse. We aren't going to be selling for another year or so anyway. I would be interested to find out how much it is actually worth though!

I don't know exactly how much they are going for, but I am hoping to sell ours for around €200,000! It is big though. It has 4/5 bedrooms. Its actually in Carvoeiro.

Our lawyer didn't make any charge for obtaining our fiscal numbers, although we were using him at the time for purchasing a property. He has helped us out on numerous occasions since though with no charge for other such minor things to do with the finanças etc.
