Hey, if this restaurant is owned by an Hotel Group and not the guy that runs it, there is hope. Any way we can pass this thread on to the owners in the hope they might do something? A refurbish will not sort out the main problem, which is food and service. Given the general concensus, it must be being kept alive by unsuspecting first timers.

The Lemon Merangue sounds good to me Ellie. As far as the jellied eels is concerned??? They are the best reason I can think of for NOT living in the East End!

I dont know Ellie....we let you into the Algarve....gave you political asylum in Lincolnshire...and still you talk about jellied eels!...Now Lincolnshire sausages.....mmm

It's true isnt it.....you can take the girl out of London....but you cant take the London out of the girl!!

As an aside........
We live in Surrey now, and sadly cant find a decent sausage! These finely minced offerings the local butchers offer, are just not a shade on what we are forced to import ftom Lincolnshire and Saxmunham in Suffolk.
You can however get some really good sausages in Carvoeiro!
 Confess Ive only eaten jellied eels about twice Bruce..but my mum used to buy fresh eels at fishmonger, all alive & wriggling, and the fishmonger chopper off their heads!
I prefered the eels that mum cooked

Yes, no doubt about it, the best sausages are in Lincs..though I had some very good Cumberland ones on Friday!

Ive been to Saxmundham Bruce but Ive never had a sausage there :?

when we lived in Algarve, we used to buy German sausages which were very good?

So we want good grub & service at O Boteco..never mind the colour of the walls.. 8)

Reply on the email sent 23rd arrived tonight...don't hold your breath.

Dear Sirs,

We thank the commentaries sent our Commercial Department on the Boteco Restaurant.

We have to inform that the same ones had been directed to our Legal Department and that the Boteco Restaurant is not for sale.

With our compliments,

Luiza M Fernandes

Commercial Department

Grão Pará Hotel Group

I have sent a reply which follows but I think this a dead duck. (bet they couldn't cook a dead either!)

Thank you for your reply. If the restaurant is not for sale, when can we expect a new management team including chefs. You have a wonderful location that should be earning far more income than it is at present. It's no good having guests turning up once and never coming back.

Interesting comment about the emailbeing sent to their legal dept. Was this to get the information about the sale or are they taking offence at our comments.

I fear its the latter Laser.
Now let's see what they could be suspecting:

- A group of crooked developers get together to buy the restaurant.
- They pose as ordinary folks on a public forum and talk down the place.
- The price is thus heavily deflated.

Oh, gimme a break !

Mind you, I do hope that in reality someone somewhere at top management will now read all this and take some proper action. This place really does deserve to succeed.

Thanks for the effort Mike. You never know because the clogs tend to turn slowly in Portugal, but we may yet get a result. Hope that they at least pass the comments on to the manager, in the hope that he might actually try a bit harder. Love the fact that they took our interest in purchasing seriously. Thought the Americans were the only ones not to do irony. :)

We were tempted to go there tonight on the basis that the view is spectacular and the food might have improved but there was no parking to be had. So we ate in town and then met Roy and Carol for a drink at Ma Ja's. Got chucked out of there at closing time and left the Carpenters to meander on to Brady's.

We are going to Carvoeiro since 14 years on summer vacation and
we have visited O' Boteco several times during these two weeks.
We were always extremely satisfied with the friendly, efficient and professional service, that is remarkably well organized.

The food was of excellent quality over all these years.
The view speaks for itself, it is simply breathtaking.

Overall O'Boteco is an outstanding restaurant and we certainly
will make reservations when we return to Carvoeiro next summer.[/quote]

I think the Herr Doctor is in the automotive trade. What you should appreciate Wilfried is that many of us are British and therefore are possibly more used to a higher level of cuisine.* :D To be fair, I was going to try the place but couldn't park, which speaks for itself.

* This a joke because a lot of British restaurants provide poor food at high prices but it is getting better.

Not wishing to keep this thread going any longer than necessary, but there is a difference between being on a weeks holiday and spending all or a major part of your life in CVO. You are much less picky if you on a short holiday. I still think this is the only thing that keeps this place alive. And to echo a previous comment, we live in gastropub land when in the UK and are spoiled. Great food, and because of increasing competion the prices are improving.
