Location of Boa Vista

Post by DaveJ »

Hi,

I'm due to visit CVO in July, specifically to Boa Vista to look at property, but I'm having trouble finding the exact location of the urbanisation on a map.

Google Earth has some good resolution imagery of the area - does anyone have the co-ordinates for Boa Vista and have any idea how old the images are?

Many thanks,

Dave J

BoaVista at Google Earth: 37 06' 41, -8 28' 15

I suspect its at least a year old. There's no signs of any building work at the new development around Villa Nova (37 06' 21, -8 28' 23).

For those without Google Earth, this must all seem like a strange sort of coded message  .

The only Boavista urbanisation I know of is west of Lagos on the coast road just before the turnoff to Luz. It has many new apartments/villas around the golf course. A friend of mine owns a couple of apt's there. It seems to be the only one that comes up on a google search.

Its a well kept secret Mag, but there is a Boavista urbanization right here on the outskirts of Carvoeiro. Search this forum for Boavista and read various discussions about the new sewerage treatment plant right next door

Well, you live and learn. It must be a well kept secret - is that something to do with sewerage?

Boa Vista was originally mainly vineyards with a few agricultural houses, but over the past 20 years or so has developed into an urbanisation of some 60 houses. Largely Portuguese owned but with an increasing number of ex-pat owners.

The installation of new drains has for the past year made it look messy but the roads have recently been re-instated and things should get back to normal. The biggest disadvantage is the closure of the Boa Vista Bar 5 years ago and the failure to find a buyer - meaning a car ride for a beer or shopping - otherwise it is a pleasant well situated area.

To find it, take the road from Lagoa towards Sesmarias, take the 3rd exit at the 2nd roundabout and look for the Bar on the left after a kilometre.

DaveJ - if you let me have your e-mail, I will forward a map.

We are one of the " new " ex pat villa builders that Roy refers to.
Staying in Boavista does require driving to the shops , bars etc ( although we have met some who walk into town !! ).
It is only a few minutes drive to lagoa and to the golf courses at Gramacho and Pinta. ( in fact you can now see the new Pinta club house from some of the roof terraces. ).
It has fantastic views of the Monchique hills and inland areas to the east.
As Roy will confirm there are a number of new villas in construction , we are loooking forward to staying in a mixed community cockerels and dogs not withstanding.
The new prestige development " up the Hill " can only be good news for the area ( it will at least provide us with a local watering hole ).

As another Boavista resident, I should say do not think prices at 'any new watering hole' within walking distance will be within our reach as it looks as though they are advertising top tourist facilities and therefore top tourist prices
