Have you tried Marmite, a little every morning does the trick for me.

Thats why G&T was so popular with the Colonists way back, to fight off malaeria. Gin was added to quinine to make the drink more palatable...........any excuse!! Oh and Tonic water must have a minimum percentage of Quinine per litre.
Just saying.

I just come out in the winter, when the mossies have gone on their own winter break. However, we have had them in a warm November. Nothing wakes me up sooner than hearing the buzz of a mosquito and hoping that it hasn't already struck!

Found last year ok, but the year before was bad. I always use Avons Skin so soft dry oil spray - it has to be the green one - I used to be an Avon Lady (but not any more so not drumming up business!!!) but it really works for me. I had a customer who had been on a cruise and she said loads of people had it with them so she bought a few bottles for her husband who really suffered with mozzie bites. She said it worked better than the other stuff they'd tried. As already said it probably doesn't work for everyone, but definately does for me . Put it on when doing gardening at home too as always seem to get bitten if not. Just remember its the green dry oil spray :!:

Bring some Anthisan cream with you - very good for aftercare and you can buy it over the counter

I seem to remember something in the Algarve Resident last year about a problem with mosquitoes breeding in a (disused?) water treatment works in Lagoa but i can't find it, perhaps I dreamt it!

For years I've always been savaged by mossies in the Algarve, particulatly in the summer and autumn, but for the last 2 or 3 years I've found that by using the tropical strength Repel wipes (from Boots) before going out in the evening and again before going to bed, I' ve been OK. I had one bite when we were there for 11 days up to the middle of last week - I get more than that in the evening in the garden in th UK.

Sounds like its a trial and error with these things, some products work better for some than others. We've got various repellents/etc to take and them zap it things to try stop the itching! Lol

HampshireRich wrote:OMG! - hope they've gone by Saturday. I was in Malta 3 weeks ago - suffered 72 bites in one night whilst the other 3 got none! Over 50 on my right leg!

Looks like I will have to cover myself in Deet for a fortnight!

Are you sure it wasn't bed bugs?

That does seem a lot!!!!

Just returned from a week in Carvoeiro; one bite between the four of us and the only product we used was plug-in mosquito killer in the house.
We were eating outside most nights and didn't hear or see any of the little blighters!
