Re: Hello
Lucky you Ronnie, great place to be.
The Carvoeiro Clube de Tenis seems to be a great place to start as they have alot of different activities advertised. There is no shortage of really good friendly bars in the town either! Its always felt like a very welcoming place and i would inagine you will have no problem settling in.
Best of luck with your new move

Re: Hello
If you go to the CVO Ramblers site ( see above) you will see that each walk is publicised there, with an invitation to just sign up & come along....I have had to restrict the numbers to about 20 last winter as they were getting too popular , but can always squeeze you in! They last about 2 to 2.5 hours. We are a sociable group, mixture of old regular friends and newcomers ( like yourself). Have a read through of a couple of the reports....see viewforum.php?f=39Geoff I would very much like to join in one of your walks how do I go about signing up?
We invariably have a coffee or beer after ...sometimes, a group will stay and have the local Prato do Dia, about 7.5€ for a good value 2 course meal with wine. You will find that prices in the country are a lot cheaper than in town.
You also get to see parts of the Carvoeiro neighbourhood that you wouldn't always get to on your own. No charge of course....Julie Statham also runs weekly walking groups, but not in the summer, for €5 pp : see Portuguese News adverts.
The APAA Animal Charity usually organise monthly events of one sort or another where you can meet like minded people...visit the APAA shop in Silves for details. For something a bit different, you can always try the Algarve Hash House Harriers...if you want to know more, ask!
I am not a pubby person, but I gather that Hemingway's on the out road is a sociable place....and Bistro 72 on the out road, right hand side, has some good live 60/70 music , at least when Jailhouse Dave plays there.
Just be aware that the summer population is mainly transient tourists , but there is a lively winter scene when a lot of us come back for the lovely weather.

Re: Hello
Agree about Hemingways being popular with ex-pats. Dave who runs the bar could put you in touch with local tradesmen who may need painter. Bistro 72 currently shut and being painted!!!! New operator hopes to open before end of season.
