Agree entirely Dennis except his chips which are fries and not real chips as we know them but the fish is the bestdennisg wrote:We go to Happys to be insulted by a Dutchman. And we reckon his fish and chips are the best we have ever tasted.
Wasn't Liebe voted CVO person of 2013 ? And what happened to the award for 2014 ?

Yes PleaseSAM SPARKLE wrote:Margarida wrote:Happy 2015 forum users! If you could make a wish list of things you would like to see in Carvoeiro in 2015 what would you put on it?
I think for me it would be the bleaching of all the pillars and posts along Rua do Barranco to remove the deposits left by our local dog population!!
Any other suggestions?
Think it’s about time we had a McDonalds

The salt air play's havoc with most of the trees planted there, the orange trees paid a heavy price some years ago.American Pie wrote:I would love to see a few 'permanent' trees in the square, some nice palms would enhance the square - it just looks so dull and boring.

The day McDonalds opens in CVO will be the last time I go there.

To be honest I like it as it is - as long as the shops, restaurants and bars stay open and we are not left looking at empty properties. However, this is up to us as visitors to use said shops, restaurants and bars and not just sit in apartments eating takeaways or cooking for ourselves every night. These are businesses that depend mainly on the tourist trade - we cannot expect the local population to keep them in business just so we can use them once a week.
I appreciate that money can be tight and not everyone can eat out all the time as we do but it's a difficult balance - if they don't get used they shut and then the town will spiral downwards and then less people will come, less income for the town and more businesses shut etc etc.

I totally agree with this. It would be nice to see small improvements here and there but far more important to sustain what is already in Carvoeiro and keeps its unique character intact.HampshireRich wrote:To be honest I like it as it is - as long as the shops, restaurants and bars stay open and we are not left looking at empty properties. I suspect that the bosses at Intermarche, Aldi, Apolonia, Pingo Doce, Continente and similar are betting against that.HampshireRich wrote: up to us as visitors to .... not just sit in apartments eating takeaways or cooking for ourselves every night...

It would appear that the building of a new supermarket in Lagoa is proving my point that more and more people are eating in as there must be the demand for the new one.e-richard wrote:I suspect that the bosses at Intermarche, Aldi, Apolonia, Pingo Doce, Continente and similar are betting against that.HampshireRich wrote: up to us as visitors to .... not just sit in apartments eating takeaways or cooking for ourselves every night...

I can see no evidence to support the economic argument for building 2 more supermarkets in Lagoa.

Somebody must - I can't believe that in Portugal's economic state that there are Euros to throw away nor any financial help from the EU. Either that are some of the old ones are to close.widge wrote:

They are building a new Apallona (excuse spelling ) and the IZI is going to become Contente a big one so I'm told. More supermarkets than you could wish for".......
