Re: Credit Card Fraud

Post by Bonny »

I too am grateful for your warning regarding this scam which alerted me to the possibility of fraudulent activity on my card. I booked Resorthoppa in July for transfer from Faro in August for the 1st time as we usually hire a car and, on reading your message, I contacted my card provider but up until the 21st September all appeared in order but, hey presto, have now received my statement and there has been an amount of £138.97 made to some obscure company in Plymouth. My card has now been cancelled and a new one being issued, but worried that both my son and daughter also used this Company for transfers in August so we are waiting to see whether there are any more developments. Seems that Reshorthoppa are aware of the problem in Turkey but dont know if they are aware of the same problem occurring in the Algarve

Bonny, from what I have been hearing it happens months later so that you are less likely to spot it right away. When my Turkish forum first reported it I thought it a Turkey-only issue - it seems I was wrong.

Thanks for that, Sam. Unless it has always been the case(not that I was aware of it) the Algarve Resident now invites comments from readers on the stories it now publishes on-line.

Surely any credit card security department would be delighted with this information. :o

You'd think with the many email scams from fraudulent cheats whom use the main bank logos to get naive people to tap in their personal banking details, they(the banks) would send out mailshots or place large signs in their high street branches informing people to NEVER disclose online their account details.

They don't and yet it persists! :?

Yorkshire Bank online banking are always reminding me to be careful. And often in my written statements the same information is included. Perhaps you're with the wrong bank?

You still receiving written statements? What for? Just go on-line and view the details! :) Tempting fate there, as anybody could read your account details until that statement gets to your front door!

I do not have a choice. YB insist on sending them even though I check ALL my accounts online on a daily basis.

Our friends used Resort Hoppa last year and their credit card was used fraudulently. As it was assumed that this had been resolved they used them again this year. Clearly Resort Hoppa have not resolved the problem as their credit card was again used fraudulently!
