Autodromo - what's the latest situation?

Post by TomUK »

We're over in May and thought we might have a look around the autodrome, having never done so since it was finished. I know at the back end of last year there were doom and gloom stories surrounding it's finacial situation. A couple of links to their website have failed to connect (including one on these forums).
I presume it can be reached without using any toll roads - I have shunned the A22 since tolls were introduced.
What's the latest? is it still up and running? I'm not too worried about catching an event, but if there was some way of finding out a programme of events for 2013, it would be a bonus. Anyone know how to find their website?

There are signs to it from the 125, so presumably it can be reached without tolls. Either side of the A22 exit there are toll gantries.

Thanks for that. I have noticed the signs from the N125, but wasn't sure if you ended up being sucked onto the A22.
I have just found their website (of sorts). Home page says "Under Construction". But there is a "Buy Tickets" button. From this I can see the events for 2013. There is a GT meeting 10/11/12 May. The list of ticket prices displayed is for package deals, which include admission, hospitality and hotel accommodation over the weekend. There is no info about one day admission only tickets. Also none of the the links at the top of the page for Gallery/Location, etc. are working. Seems a bit of a shambles.
Am I right in believing we can turn up on the day and pay at the gate, seeing as it doesn't seem to draw massive crowds.

It looks on Google Maps as if the link from the 125 passes underneath the A22, so I'm guessing you'd be ok.

I found an ad for a GT meeting at the Autodromo last year and really looked forward to it, turned up on the day and found a couple of bike race teams having a practice session. Nobody in reception knew anything about the GT meeting, it is a complete shambles, no organisation and as you've found out the website is useless.
It is possible to have a wander around the the press area, winners podium, briefing room but it is all done on your own, no guide or info booklet, it is a disgrace for something which cost nearly €200,000,000.
The owner of Hemmingways is into bike racing, worth having a chat with him.

Try the following link:
http://trackshop.autodromodoalgarve.com/

No problem in accessing from the N125.

I believe that although in administration a rescue plan has been agreed with the creditors that centres on much of the current debt being written off. However, if they don't get their act together and get some decent racing then it will never be a success. Track days are not the way to go.

Thanks Farol - but that link is to the page I was directed to from the 'Buy Tickets' button on the Autodrome website (the only link that worked). You will see that tickets are for the full weekend with hotel accommodation included. No details of entrance fee on any particular day are shown. They do include an e-mail number to order day tickets though.
