That is only for now !! It may well change considerably next year as frequencies are switched and Astra 2E comes on line.

Oops, I might have been using hotmail.com  I didn't mean the comment nastily Mark, if it was me and I was getting bucketloads of emails that I couldn't answer, I might be inclined to do the same.

I realise that the Astra 2F thing us still an unknown in the Algarve but can you give us an update when you do know something. Such as, will a 3m dish help.

3mtr ?? there is a report that the 4mtr dish that supplies the val de lobo network cannot receive the Astra 2f signal.
If the beam does not reach here then that could be it.

Be interesting to see what they do about it. Presumably, the condo fees include access to UK TV.

Do the Portuguese have the equivalent of a TV Licence and if so - how much does it cost?

If they do, have how do expats receiving UK stations only get over that hurdle? I can't imagine the Portuguese would pass up on an opportunity to part 'wealthy' expats from their money :o

Makes sense - at least anybody not paying their electricity bill - gets cut off and can't watch TV - if they did that in the UK. That would save on the squadrons of Detector Vans and the salaries of those who drive around in them - probably promoted Traffic Wardens :(

I found out here on Friday that for my 4 staff to have a radio playing in the office I have to buy a licence for £120 a year. Apparently - those tasked with detecting 'illegal' listening call businesses and if you are playing music on your hold music or they hear a radio in the background - around they come and take you to task. What does that cost and do they cover the cost - you couldn't make this stuff up :o

With most Portuguese operating on mobiles it's probably unlikely that detection method will catch on - for now - but I wouldn't rule it out :)

Out of interest I logged on to one of the much promoted internet live streaming TV sites " Filmon " after 2o mins of waiting for BBC1 to load I gave up.

Scratch 1, keep looking for other alterbatives.
I am in the UK at the moment and have an excellent broadband connection.

Any more stations disappeared? I did read on one of the Astra forums that SES Astra try not to do too much messing around on the lead-up to Christmas in case they cock anything up at their busiest (most lucrative) time.

The BBC has confirmed that when the change over to the ASTRA 2E sat is completed next year UK residents will see a planned improvement but that many outside of the UK who have been able to receive the main UK channels will lose them.

Now we need to hear from Sky.

In 2010 I 'naively' enquired at Sky for a service in Portugal - to be told that there is no service available in Portugal. I advised the person that you only had to walk along the Vilamoura sea front and see Sky Sports beaming out at you from every pub. The guy became quite aggressive and was emphatic that it was not possible to get a service in Portugal. I phoned again several weeks later and got a more accommodating person - but the answer was the same.

I suspect they know their 'footprint' extends to Portugal and can't be seen to be providing services into another territory without paying for it. When I had our system installed in Cvo I was advised not to use the landline to contact Sky as they would/could cut me off if they knew I was outside the UK. I am no expert on TV technical issues but I can't see Sky doing anything to accommodate service requirements beyond the UK.
