Burgled again - the straw that broke the Camel's back
Re: Burgled again - the straw that broke the Camel's back
The only way to progress to a "Have" from a "Have not" is to shift your arse and work, or become one of the minority of lucky people who gamble and win, another means is to go and steal from a "Have" but that's frought with danger especially around my territory. It's possibly safer now historically than it ever was in the past.shanagarry wrote:widge wrote:“Wealthy Brits say they are looking to leave the UK as they believe crime and anti-social behaviour is soaring and they are seeking a higher quality of life in countries which boast a safe, family-orientated lifestyleThat's Portugal and most of Europe out of the equation - was there somewhere else they had in mind. Regretfully our entire world is mired in this toxic mix of the haves and the have nots - creating a very unpleasant prognosis.widge wrote:Against a backdrop of increasing taxes, a perceived social disorder,
Clearly those who are in the fortunate position of 'having' would dearly like to be somewhere better - finding that place is no longer the 'walk-in-the-park' proposition it once was - how sad

Well Shanagarry there is one silver lining about having to come home.
Going back to Surrey is in a way is going back to Carvoeiro. Some of the forum members whom have villas in CVO, also live/part-live in Surrey .There could be an ex-pats club in Surrey!
Plus of course you are from Surrey and a CVO villa owner. Maybe there is something in the Surrey air.
You have the right to live in peace and enjoy your property no matter where that is. When that has been violated it is very personal and makes you very anguished.
Things will get better. It is a shame for it to get better you had to experience the severe negative of such a situation.

Re: Burgled again - the straw that broke the Camel's back
sad thread to read. I just cannot understand why the local politicians, business people are not putting much more pressure on the police to be more vigilent, more visable and more productive.
the villa we usually stay in has been burgled a few times, usually as above when a door is left ajar they sneak in, but also once when a window was left open and the safe was taken and another time the burglers let themselves in with their own set up keys, i've no doubt in my mind there is collusion between some trades people, some cleaners etc and burglers.
i'd love to be over there with a few mates, leave a door ajar and to tempt the burglers into a welcome committee.

West Sussex is it's own county as is East Sussex, debatable which one is better, they share Brighton but the rest is divided; my favourite town in either is Rye, all ancient and cobblestonedEMM wrote:Note he said " West Sussex " the posh bit.
Lewes is home to Harvey's brewery, a pint of Sussex Best is in my top 3 beers
Re: Burgled again - the straw that broke the Camel's back
Lousy road system in East Sussex - takes forever to get anywhere - but Rye is lovely and Camber Sands has a fantastic beach as long as you don't mind the nearby Nuclear Power station

Totally agree about the Harveys too

So sorry to hear your bad news, heart breaking to hear of your not good experiences. We fell in love with the Algarve since staying at the Tivoli Almansoor for two weeks for Euro2004 and have been back to Carvoeiro many many times since. Your story breaks the dream but sadly Europe is where it is and who know where it's going to end. We live in Rochester,Kent. I’ve been made redundant twice in the last 2 years. Both my next door neighbours had the same. One is now long term unemployed and hating every minute. The local shopping centre has a 3rd of it's units empty and we're cushioned from the worst being in the South East.Every part of Europe is bleak and people will do bad things when things are bad.Lets all hope things turn for the better soon.
