We always use argus and can honestly say we have been very pleased with them over the last 5 years we have booked with them and if you take out a car hire insurance for a year £49 this covers the extra SDW http://www.insurance4carhire.co.uk you cant go wrong, they have excellent after sales care and you pick up in car park 4 at the airport the same as YOR car hire. NO PROBS. WE also had a window broken in the car near Praia da Rocha and a replacement car was not a problem and.

Just a word of warning we use insurance4carhire, they are very good, but we didn't read the small print properly and
we were only covered for 31 days at a time, in April I smashed the side of the car up in Lagoa outside Chrisseys and
we had been out for 47 days so not covered and had to pay 950 euros excess. We have now discovered if we buy world
wide cover for £71 we will be covered for 60 days, we shall buy this in future as we are usually out for 6 weeks at a
time. A lesson learn't!!!

noticed that on a few policies all right. some are 31 and some are 60 and some are even 90. maybe hire the car for 30 days and again for another 30 days to run consecutively?

I'm sure this topic must have an interest for Steen and his business associates, I'm usually pretty loyal and have hired from his company for years, I was though very unhappy when I had a window broken and was visited by one of his reps who showed no compassion whatsoever, in fact he was very arrogant, and disputed my version of the events leading up to the situation and insisted I'd left something on the seat, c'mon I've visited Cvo for 25 years and used hire cars so I know the game.
I have recommended clients to use his company in the past, but since that incident I leave them to find their own hire company. :(

I had a very similar experience with TravelRent. This whole issue revolves around "what's in & what's outside" for insurance & must affect the rates charged and or the profitability of the rental company. I expect they're all much the same when it comes to making a claim & it's only then that you find out what you really bought when you hired the car!

If you need a hire car for more than 31 (60) days ask the car hire company to issue a new contract and the insurance4carhire contract renews as well. If you are hiring for longer than 60 days, you will probably be negotiating a special deal anyway.

I use TR and have yearly excess insurance, so assume (maybe incorrectly) that in the event of a claim TR will issued a receipt for any monies charged (do know I must also have a GNR report). The company I use for the insurance is Atlas Direct who say that they cover all drivers named on the car hire agreement. This is a problem with some of the other insurers who only cover the person who is the main driver/hirer.

I've toyed with the idea of buying a car over in Cvo and leaving it for clients to use, at a cost like! but I don't think it would be a feasable project, I'd have to have someone use it in the winter just to keep it running and where on earth could I find someone to help me out driving an S500 Merc around as a favour.
