Eh!, where do you shop Bristle Si? I agree with Bruce, the prices are much lower than in the UK for fruit and veg and the quality is fantastic

Clearly Bri Si never shops anywhere other than the few shops in Carvoeiro that do take advantage of the captive market..
We would never shop there other than in extremis.
Why when in the larger super markets you can buy local oranges for 75-90 cents kg or a little further a field 50 cents kg, or tangerines for the equivalent of 23P a kg plus a huge range of locally grown products.
I must admit to a bias against buying food stuffs that have been shipped half way across the world be it in Portugal or the UK or a product that has spent a couple of days in a truck from the UK or anywhere for that matter and then an unkown time in a freezer when there are fresher better products available.

For those of you who have not been there, go to Silves for the saturday market, you will not be dissapointed and like us will always come back with a full bag .

The local Silves oranges, grapefruit and lemons in the springtime are wonderful. A tenth of the price of the tasteless oranges and other citrus fruit you get in the UK supermarkets at the same time of year.

In fact if you shop for local produce in the Carvoeiro/Lagoa/Silves area supermarkets, you get some of the tastiest and good value fruit and veg it is possible to buy anywhere.
A tenth of the price? I think not - more like 10 times the price!
No way 10 times the price. Look at Bruces' statement again BS.... Silves Oranges,Grapefruit and Lemons..... which are much cheaper and far far tastier than what we get back home especially in the early months of the year.

Where is the Silves market on Saturdays :?: ( and no Pato I don't want the obvious answer..... )

The silves fruit and veg market , and fresh fish is held in the market hall and surrounding streets, you cannot miss it.
Local farmers and producers come into Silves some have established stalls in the market hall, others literally a barrow with a few items on the pavement.
If you want fresh fish be prepared to queue.
There is a general market once a month in the car parks behind the castle.

Most local weekly markets seem to wind up at about 1pm.
