You need to read this thread from the begining, then you will know as much as we do about what you have to do. :)

I think what logicbob means is that you'll still be none the wiser. There's all sorts of advice been offered and it cannot be summed up in a few sentences.

Hi,
Drive4Fun have just replied to my enquiry about transponders. Not sure how to attach a PDF, any help welcome - so pasted contents.

Dear Customer,
Please see below a few FAQ´s we have organized to explain everything about the new “Drive4Fun
Easy Toll”:
How can I have a transponder to go legally into the A22 road?
The transponders that Drive4Fun offers you are available on arrival for all the clients that wish to have them;
they do not need to be pre-booked.
If I ask one on arrival, how will I use it?
The transponder will be given to you by one of our representatives; the car will have already a specific position
point in the windscreen where you will place the transponder.
After having the transponder in the car, what else do I need to do?
Basically nothing. Assuming the transponder is placed in the windscreen, the cameras in the toll zones will
automatically debit the exact amount of the specific charging point, avoiding Post Office congestion.
How much will cost the transponder?
The transponder will have a cost of 20 euros and it already includes 15 euros of passages in it.
I know in advance, these initial 15 euros will not be enough for my journeys. How can I add more
money?

On arrival should you choose to add more money to the transponder, our representatives can recharge it with a
minimum of 10 euros and multiples of 5 euros, which will be added to the initial 15 euros.
I thought the 15 euros were enough but I have run out of credit. Can I recharge during the rental?
Yes. During the hire you can just give us a call and by phone we will be able to recharge your transponder with a
minimum of 10 euros and multiples of 5 euros. In order to do this, you will need to give us a 24 hours advanced
notice as the system does not operate “on-time”.
I have started and finished my holidays and I did not spend the initial 15 euros. Will I get a refund?
Unfortunately no. Any amount left to use will not be possible to refund as we do not have that facility as well.
What happens if I do not take the transponder and decide to use the A22 anyway?
You will incur a fine and possible administration fees also. According with the law, Drive4Fun has no option but
to inform who the main driver was with a copy of the rental agreement; from here the police will take over.
With this option, will I still see my credit card involved in this A22 toll system with late charges or
fees after my holiday has ended?

No. With this option we do not need any credit card for payment as whatever amount you have in the
transponder is whatever amount you will be able to use. There is no place for late charges or administration
fees and the A22 toll problem ends when your rental ends.

very reasonable cost for transponder (€5 + the unused portion of the €15, still a very reasonable arrangement) Most points well covered by drive4fun but what happens if you used up the €15, didn't phone them for more cover and continued to use the motorway. I assume when you bring the vehicle back they will know and levy the 'additional' tolls + an admin charge.

At a minimum cost of 20€ it still seems a little steep to me (when you can buy your own for only 7,50€ extra) but it is progress of sorts. At least the potential fines should be avoided. Surely this company will have its transponders on direct debit and therefore all the stuff about 10€ minimum top-up and no return of unused credit etc is nonsense? To me it has shades of the full tank of fuel on delivery but return empty scam about it. A nice little earner for them.

Well done Drive4fun. Looks like a well thought out solution, and dont forget they have got to make a bit to cover their administration costs, which will be considerable on a large fleet of vehicles.

Not really a runner for a tourist to buy a transponder for €27.50 and still have tolls to pay. at least with this you have €15 worh of toll journeys. Don't like the €10 as a minimum top-up though, and don't understand the 24 hours notice. (surely the transponder will continue working even when credit has expired, though how drive4fun intend to deal with scenario is not clear)

Oops, forgot about having to put credit on it as well in my haste to post! I agree about the level of minimum top-up. Given that they are keeping any unused credit I would have thought that they should be able to provide the transponder for free with an initial minimum top-up of 10€ or 15€ with 5€ increments (or later top-ups).

Interestingly in Drive4Fun's information there is a contradiction:
Can I recharge during the rental?
Yes. During the hire you can just give us a call and by phone we will be able to recharge your transponder ...

With this option, will I still see my credit card involved in this A22 toll system with late charges or fees after my holiday has ended?

No. With this option we do not need any credit card for payment ...
So, if you need a re-charge by phone how do you pay and what do they do if you didn't top-up enough?
